What exactly is the problem? Because if it is just the matter of the "ching-chong cho chua," then I find it a bit exaggerated.

it's a big deal and a big offense in a country where racism, prejudice, stereotyping and racial caricatures are more openly acknowledged and condemned and where Asians (regardless of origin) are often poked fun at and called "ching-chongs"
i know i was offended when some ignorant white guy kept referring to me as "kung-fu" or "ching" back in high school.

Hmm, I see.

Culture-crash course lesson for me I guess, because over here, we make do make fun of the seeming randomness of chinese language, yet the chinese here do not seem to mind. Then again, its probably because on another end, they know they are highly regarded, both in terms of money and even looks, as evident in the popularity of chinese soaps.

O'Donnell seem to admit that she didn't mean to offend, or rather "mock" - I've heard worst coming from politicians and businessmen and their topic isn't about how Danny DeVito appeared drunk on a show. I suppose different cultures have different ways of reacting to such remarks (depending on the level of offense and other factors). You can definitely witness the full force of the Asian ethnic pride if anything life threatening is involved.

I'm sure O'Donnell learned her lesson on this one.

PS - I just hope no political manipulation is being used here.
