"How do you know if you self-injure? It may seem an odd question to some, but a few people aren't sure if what they do is "really" self-injury. Answer these questions

As the sole owner and moderator of _____selfinjury, I feel the need to comment. Of course. Catherine interrupts everything.
1. Self-injury (SI) is the deliberate, non-suicidal act of physically harming yourself. There are many forms of SI, including: Cutting; burning; scatching; intentional blunt object injuries (those that form those big purple bruises); hair-pulling; repetitive overdosing that is not suicidal in nature; bone-breaking; amputation of limbs; and interfering with the healing of wounds.
2. SI can take place at any time, for any or no reason, with varying intervals. Just because you don't SI at the same time every time, or for the same or similar reason every time (this is called ritual SI), does not mean that what you do is not SI. SI can quickly lead from occassional to a habit to an out-of-control addiction

ok thanks for the info. i had to like re-read it 5 times to fully understand it. I think i understand. So basically i am a self-injurer. I had thought that with self-injury most people did it when they were like upset or a situation occured where they weren't in control of it or something. Like what the second question was. So i was wrong. OK i think i understand. I had always knew that self-injury involved what u said but i didnt think "interfering with the healing of a wound" is SI. It became like natural to pick at my scabs. I would be sitting down and i would just pick. I am trying to type what i want to say but its not coming out. Thank you again. I was hoping someone would comment with what u said.
Well, admitting you have a problem is the first step, right? You're very, very welcome. I hope you know that I'm here if you wanna talk (or e-mail me). And when the school year starts up, the Student Assistance Counselor, Julie Staber (rm. 001A), is very sweet and understanding. She's been there for me through quite a bit.
