it was also eye-opening when i talked to a friend serving in iraq last year at 4th of july. he said it was like 126 degrees or something in the shade. yikes. i think i pledged that year to never complain about the weather. i also had to giggle because his mom had tried to send him sweets, like cotton candy and gummi worms, and they were just lumps of sugar by the time they got to him. she finally switched to sending socks instead.
