With the show having been running for over 50 years (long enough that the British post office has even put out a set of stamps for it) there's a lot of history that normally doesn't get referred to directly, but I'm sure little bits get put in just to make sure that oldies such as myself are paying attention. One of tonight's show's 'little bits' was a casual reference to the name "Blinovitch"... a name which regularly gets brought up (with little or no explanation), normally whenever a scriptwriter wants to plant a McGuffin to stop the Doctor from being able to do something with time travel which would make a problem much easier to solve.
They're officially still being coy on whether or not Clara is leaving or not, and the people who broke the news on that was the Mirror, and you know. ;)
