I had a roommate from Charleston, S.C., and she used to have boiled peanuts shipped to school. She'd inhale them. They weren't bad- just a different taste.

I ate my weight in tako last weekend and plan to again next weekend. Tako is octopus in case you weren't aware. But then Japan is currently my home, the home of weird and wonderful food. And takoyaki- octopus dumplings smothered in sauce, mayo, seaweed and fish flakes is the best! I'm also on a soba kick- cold wheat noodles dunked in spicy soy sauce. And my other favourite summer food at the moment is kakigori- which is shaved ice smothered in sugary syrup. So good for cooling down. I'm hungry now!

Banana sandwiches are good. Even with mayo. But better with Nutella!

I once got injured Wii bowling. Not such a fan of tennis, so haven't played as much.

Octopus huh? Fish flakes? Well...the kakigori sounds good!

Don't like the bowling too much....I'm not good at it at all.

Nemo has informed us that we haven't lived until we've eaten boiled peanuts, and promises to bring some to the next flist meeting.

Can't do bananas - the smell makes me queasy.

Chicken and dumplings? Mom in law used to make dumplings, but I have a feeling that they weren't the kind that made you want to slap her.

I can't think of too many regional foods - but there's always Taylor Pork Roll - which we call Taylor Ham - that's hard to find in other places.....or hot dogs all the way - with sauce, onions and mustard...yum.

And then again, I've told Kat that a bagel with a schmear of cream cheese is regional - as in, it's better here in the NYC area.

I hope Nemo will do that. They are yummy and addicting.

Ha! They must NOT be the kind of dumplings I'm talking about! ;)

I've always heard that bagels are a NYC thing.
I haven't heard of a Taylor Pork Roll. What's the Taylor for?

I think that's the brand name....but you grill it in a frying pan - it's excellent with egg and cheese on a roll.
It's kinda a cross between Canadian bacon and ham. Delicious.

Um.... I'm a fan of bananas with chunky peanut butter on them, but I've never heard of them with mayo. I have to say it doesn't appeal to me personally. Then again, I'm anti-mayo ( ... )

I was going to say New England Boiled dinner...but in Connecticut, it's more like corned beef and cabbage.

Strawberry shortcake season just ended. Now it's time for blueberry pie---with a lattice topcrust....warm from the oven with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm. Doesn't get any better than that!

How about Lobster rolls? The famous ones here are served in a hotdog bun, but they are hot, dripping with melted butter.

(first time I was in the south with my daughter, I thought we were being offered *bald nuts* All I could think was WTF!)

Interesting regional differences with the N.E.B.D. Then again, some parts of Connecticut are much more NY than N.E., so there's all sorts of stuff in the mix. There's that dividig line where the sports allegiances switch to the dreaded Yankees, etc.

I was going to mention lobster rolls, but I stopped before going into specifics with the "lobster" heading. I was already too hungry way too early. Why torture myself too?

I thought about adding fish and chips- with vinegar- but I wasn't sure how far that had spread. That was a big one on Wednesdays and Fridays all year, not just Lent.

Coffee as THE default ice cream flavor stands out too.

I'd never had "bald nuts" (hee) until the one roommate opened her stash, but I'd never heard of "fat back" or "butter beans" before then either.
