A Music Post (Some of My Own for a Change)

Recorded my song "The Sea, Part I." This one is part of a larger series of nautically themed songs that make up a concept album, of sorts. (For some reason many of my ( Read more... )

Actually, songwriting was a big part of my development as a writer. I grew interested in poetry as a teenager because I thought knowing a little about the subject might help songwriting (it did, I think). As a teenager and young adult, I spent a bunch of time playing grunge, punk, and metal with my buddies in various bands -- stuff a heck of a lot harder than the stuff I do on my own. Mostly I played bass. Sometimes I wrote some acoustic stuff that I'd play before the main gigs, but I'm not much of a guitarist, really. I can play rhythm good enough, I guess.

Thank you for the kind words! :)

It's absolutely beautiful. How I envy your family! Live music and beautiful singing.

LOL. They probably envy the quiet at your house! I like to noodle around a lot with different tunings and effects -- Not as fun for them to listen to as a finished song! :)

The boys do love to bang my guitars, however (for some reason they don't quite understand the concept you should strum softly quite yet). I need give them a pair of cheap second-hand guitars, let them bang them around, and perhaps put out some Captain Beefheart style noise rock.

Thank you for the compliment! :) I really appreciate it. It's a completely different way of putting myself out there as most of my songs tend to be a trifle more confessional than my stories. Fiction gives one a buffer of intentional falsehood to hide behind, after all.
