There was a bit of dirt on him, since he had been digging just a minute ago-- fresh dirt on the tip of his shovel. He looked down at the boy, taking a drag of his cigarette, his eyes still wandering over him. ]

[He stopped for a moment from his rambling, knowing it probably made no sense to this other guy as he tried to calculate what was happening.
