I saw this segments on this show on Fox News that made me mad enough to post here. Its about infidelity. There is a poll out saying that 60% of women claim that they have cheated on thier husbands

I know. Just imagine how things will be by the time I'm 65, which will be 2046. I don't really wanna fathom the thought of what will be "acceptable" by then.
Another bad thing is how the court system totally favours women when there is a divorce. The woman can screw up just as much as the man and yet he still has to pay about half his salary sometimes, for her, even if she already has money. The court should judge things on a closer to gender-neutral manner and take things case-by-case...
I don't think a woman cheats thinking, "Oh, men do it all the time." Cheating isn't right, but if it is happening (especially if it is the woman doing the cheating), it means there is something inherently wrong with the marriage in the first place. It is likely the husband is not satisfying the wife emotionally (OR vice vera - but we're talking about women now, right?), and she finds that somewhere else.
The problem is that people don't even try to make things work anymore.
I think cheating is wrong no matter what, but that is true that many times, when one of the members of the couple feels emotionally unsatisfied, they will look elsewhere to get that.
You're right, it seems like no one wants to even try to work things out anymore. Any wrong little thing happens and people want a divorce.
I don't think "no-fault" divorces help either. I don't fully understand that (and hope I never will) but my dad and his new g/f kinda explained it to me. But, I think that if someone cheats or something like that, that it should be a point against them in the divorce settlement and agreement. Cheating is wrong no matter what and excuses still don't justify it...
no-fault ... aka "irreconcilable differences." It's basically breaking up becuase things "didn't work out."
In NY it is super long and time-consuming to get a divorce, no-fault is the quickest and cheapest way to do it. A lot of times, there isn't enough to settle to make it worth the long, brutal, expensive court battle.
Divorce needs to be an option for people - but people jump into marriages then decide, "oh, oops." Marriage is a big step that NO ONE takes seriously anymore.
NO Fault Divorcessouthpaw1028July 23 2003, 01:34:47 UTC
I don't know much about "no-fault divorces". Part of it being that my parents divorced happened when I was only 5, so I dind't hear the terms thrown out and b/c I haven't been divorced and hope I never will.
In fact, if I become a lawyer I am STAYING OUT of family law. Too much potential for Jerry SPringer drama shows and hearing things about peoples' sex lives and habits that I really don't wanna hear.
My dad and his g/f explained that FLA is a "no-fault divorce" state and they said that it didn't matter if he had a new g/f while he's still in the process of getting this divorce.
I definitly think that divorce should be an open option but it seems so overdone. NO one takes marriage seriously anymore, which I think is tragic and its bad for the kids who have to observe this behavior out of their parents.
I think that Dr. Laura is overly-conservative in a lot of things, but I can agree with her on the "3 A's" as valid reasons for divorce: Adultery, Abuse, and Addiction.
I don't think feminism are becoming more like "be like a man". The majority (of feminists and feminism advocates) are still grasping for equal rights (legally, occupationally, etc.), and there are always a few who would be on the extreme end. Maybe they've just been a bit louder recently.
Side Effects of the Feminist Movementsouthpaw1028July 23 2003, 01:48:30 UTC
So how do you explain this phenomenon of this drastic increase in women cheating. In polls I read from around the 1960s or 1970s, only about 25% of women cheated, NOW, in 2003, it's 60%. It has more than doubled
( ... )
I honestly think that the only thing that is going wrong with feminism today is that "feminists" say that they want to be equal, but in reality, they want to be superior; I think they want to be what the men were to women for so long. I advocate women in the workplace, I advocate women getting and education. I believe that women should be able to do whatever they dream of doing; weather it includes the old-fashioned ideas of staying at home and raising a family or not, but what really dissapoints me is women who can punch a guy and then cower behind the antiquated belief of "you never hit a lady" or a woman who has just recived a negative comment from a man and says that he is trying to hold her down because she's a woman. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think cheating on a spouse is right at all, but the gender of the person who is cheating shouldn't make a difference. I think that the fact that PEOPLE are cheating should be the story making headlines- not that women or men in particular are cheating.
I think most normal people are for women in the workplace, and women in education, etc.
I also think that cheating is wrong no matter what gender. I specifically talked about the increase in weomen cheating b/c it was a story on Fox News and I thought that it was quite firghtening that it increased from 25% in the 1960s or 70s to 60% in 2003 AND that 90% of the women that cheat don't even feel guilty about it.
If anythign people need to improve for themselves and for their kids that observe this behaviour. THe kids are the ones who get screwed over the most in the end...
