I saw a report on CNN saying that people who live together before they get married have a higher divorce rate. I have read other polls that say the same thing

I'm going to have to agree with you on this one, I don't get the polls either but either way, not everyone ends up getting a divorce so stats don't matter anyways.
I think the reason behind those numbers is that it is ususally serious Christians (Protestant and/or Catholics) and Orthodox Jews who don't believe in living together before they are married.
Those heavily religious people also believe that divorce is wrong, evil, and a sin, so they will work hard to save a bad marriage instead of just going to divorce court.
On the other hand, those that live together, are generally not that serious about their religion so they don't care as much about holding a bad marriage together b/c they don't see divorce as that bad or a sin or anything like that...
I think people who don't live together before marriage are more open minded about each other's idiosyncracies. Because if couples live together awhile, they'll start to think they know why he did this and why she did that--which can potentially lead to misunderstandings and fights.
hmm... actually that finding isn't really new. It's been circulating in the social sci. area for quite a few years--and I'm pretty sure that finding was released back then too.
I know that those findings aren't new. I've heard them before and have always wondered about it.
I have a theory behind it too...
