Bug and I arrived home today. What a mess... the last 36 or so hours have been a nightmare for us.

Great, and this is what I get to fly back to the States on. I wonder if I can convince the travel office to change carriers for me if I bring in a copy of this.
I'd rather fly World Airlines, chartered by the government for international military flights, and deal with all the connections than put up with carrieres like AA, Delta, or Continental.

I don't remember if or when I've flown American Airlines before, but the worst I've had to deal with was Continental. Seating on a first-come, first-served basis, no meals (or you had to pay extra, I forget).
So far Lufthansa has everyone else beat, even for coach on everything. The free alcohol sure makes for cozy flights.

This seems to be standard practise now on US-based carriers, at least for non-first/business class passangers. American Airlines charged us $5 for a turkey sandwich and $3 for a cookie. On our first Alaska flight, it was $5 for a whole lunch (which we later heard was better than the food servedin first class).

how fast can you get someone in to fix the problem(s)??

I think all airlines have good days and bad days...you know my last experience with British Airways (what complete BS)...but the last time I flew with them it was good.
I've even had bad experiences with WestJet, but mostly good.
Air Canada, well can't think of any good experiences with them.
But yeah, I think American is known for being a shit airline...I think they are who I flew with to SF, they didn't even clean in between flights...and apparently there must have been a child or something in the seat before me as it was covered in oreo cookies!

The best I've flown so far is Qantas...but we'll see how Singapore airlines is next week, I've heard they're really good.

I've flown American and Alaska before.
Alaska was great, and American sucked donkey wang.
Sorry to hear the flights were so monstrous.
