Actually, I identify with Jen. There have been several weeks of 90+ temps during the days here and the heat sucks the energy right out of me. We've been having afternoon thunderstorms lately which cool things down.

Blackberries - okay, let me know when your red blood cell count is back up to normal.

DDR would kill me, now.

Welcome to owning a house. A thrill a minute, and $400 power bills that you just sit, shake your head at, and pay, because that's all you really can do.

I use diatomaceous earth for ants, a nice dusting along their trails usually takes care of the problem quickly. I don't trust ANY toxic pesticide. They have an unbroken history of being called safe, while proving to have nasty long term side effects. I especially would not use them around children since the vast majority are neurotoxins.

I sympathise with your new house issues, this place had no central heat or air when I moved in, almost every plumbing fixture leaked, wasps had nests everywhere, switches were wired in incomprehensible ways, and the yard was like a jungle.

My only advice is that you give yourself time to get it all put right, and more time than you think it will take.

Ack, sorry to hear about all that. My neighborhood was built on a filled-in-swamp, we get a lot of garden spiders and daddy long-legs finding their way into our house. Harmless, but seeing a spider in the shower is off-putting, you know. :)

Something to keep in mind. You mention air conditioning now, but how well is the heat/insulation come winter? And when Spring arrives, how sealed is the basement?
