1) Which book has been on your shelves the longest?
Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne.

2) What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?
Current read:  Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.  Hey, I was up sick all night and needed something to keep me occupied...
Last read: Um.  I can't remember.  I haven't read anything for a while.
Next read:  I don't know... I'm in a really sad state as far as books go right now.  I need to get a library card ASAP!

3) What book did everyone like and you hated?
My senior English class read and loved The Devil in the White City.  I h.a.t.e.d. it!  Oh, and The Great Gatsby -- I didn't like that either.  I can't explain why, I just didn't.  I would probably like it upon re-read though.

4) Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?
The Grapes of Wrath.  I got it for Christmas one year and I have tried to pick it up several times but just can't do it... I have no idea why.

5) Which book are you saving for “retirement?”
I'm not really saving any book for retirement -- I'll read what I want when I want!  *nods*

6) Last page: read it first or wait til the end?
Wait until the end, unless it's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  I had to know he was going to live before I picked the book up.  I suck.

7) Acknowledgments: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?
I love acknowledgments, just like I love the liner notes in a CD.

8) Which book character would you switch places with?
Oh, man -- that's kind of a deep question!

9) Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?
The Perks of Being a Wallflower will always remind me of feeling lonely at UIS.  I stayed up one night and read it cover-to-cover and I carried this weird feeling around with me for the next few days... yes, a very emo answer, but a true one!

10) Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.
My favorite junior high teacher, Mrs. Antal, gave me a copy of a book that was these portraits of 50 strong black women from the last 100 years.  It was really random and I flipped through it a few times, but didn't really have a need for it or desire to immerse myself in it.  So when I found out my friend Ben from Truman had a love of black women (he has a collage of famous black women, with Oprah's picture in the middle) I gave it to him as a birthday present.  It was pretty much the most hilariously appropriate gift I've ever given anyone.

11) Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?
See above!

12) Which book has been with you to the most places?
That's a toughie, but I think it would have to be OotP.  I took it with me on vacation to Colorado when I was in high school, I read it in Michigan on more than one trip, and it's been with me to all my dorms and apartments and now here in Florida.  Wow, I can't believe how many of my answers are HP books!

13) Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?
Catcher in the Rye was ruined by excessive testing and discussion, but when I read it now I love it.

14) What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?
Nothing!  I wish I could find something strange in a book; that would make a really good story.

15) Used or brand new?
I'm torn!  I love the feeling of reading a brand-new book and knowing I'm the first person to flip its pages.  And plus they smell so good.  But I like to buy used books because a) they're cheaper and b) they kind of have a history of their own.  When it's a classic book it just feels RIGHT to buy used.  But when it's a new release, obviously you go with new.

16) Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?
I haven't ever read a Stephen King novel!  I've never really had the desire to...

17) Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
I can't say that I have.  I'm a book snob like that.

18) Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
Anything by Dr. Seuss -- seriously, what are they thinking?

19) Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
My own!  I feel like I have good book instincts.  :)
