"For you to throw Linda Ronstadt off the premises because she dared to say a few words in support of me and my film, is simply stupid and Un-American," Moore wrote.
I find this hilariously hypocritical, because Moore has... - Publically denoucned anyone who's said anything negative about his movies or question their 'legitimacy.' - Refused to show up on talk shows discussing his movies where he'll face any difficult questions. - Threatened lawsuits for slander against anyone who writes extremely scathing reviews of his work.
I don't agree with what happened, but I find this interesting. And predictable.
That they do. However, my beef is not with those people, but rather with the owner who decided to kick her out and ban her from the casino. Basically, my problem stands with the owner of the casino only.
it was obviously bad for business for her to be expressing her opinion like that...the owner made a BUSINESS decision...whatever keeps the flow of money coming in...thats what was behind his motives not the fact that he disagree'd with the comments...
A) The engagement was for one night only. She wasn't coming back, the show was over, and the tickets had been paid for. Nothing could be gained by kicking her out in terms of finance.
B) Oppressing someone's right to free speech in order to make money is not a constitutionally-viable reason. Free speech is free speech. Once you start taking that right away from people...that's when the country goes to hell. The best part about America is that it gives you the right to be an idiot. John Rocker took advantage of it, Moore and Limbaugh take advantage of it, and Ronstadt took advantage of it. Are they right? Generally, no. But they have the right to express that opinion, and that right is what seperates America from a place like Russia.

Don't the people in the theater where she performed have the same right to express their views?
