Summary: A missing scene from Outcast. John shouldn't have to go through this alone.

Rodney left John's quarters, his heart aching. John shouldn't have to go through this alone, and if Radek weren't already off-world, Rodney would send him back to M7G677 so that Rodney could be there for John. But Radek was off-world, and the repair was now Rodney's responsibility.

Without even consciously thinking about it, he tracked down Ronon in the gym and watched as Ronon took on three marines simultaneously. Clearing his throat to catch Ronon's attention, he saw a flicker of surprise cross Ronon's face for an instant when he looked up and saw Rodney. Finishing off the marines, he grabbed a towel to wipe the sweat from his face and sauntered over to Rodney.

"Why aren't you packing?" Ronon asked. "You heard what happened, didn't you? I thought you'd be going with him." Rodney glanced nervously at the marines and grabbed Ronon's arm, pulling him out of the gym and back out into the hallway.

Ronon glanced down at Rodney's hand on his arm and then at Rodney, lifting his eyebrows. Rodney rolled his eyes, but dropped his hand.

"Why aren't you packing?" Ronon asked again.

"I can't go. I have to fix something off-world that can't be put off. You have to go with him."

"Me?" Ronon asked surprised.

"Yes, you," Rodney said irritably. "Regardless of how much he says he's all right, he shouldn't be alone right now. Now ideally, I'd go with him, obviously, but since I can't, and Teyla can't in her condition, that leaves you."

Ronon shrugged and said, "Okay."

Rodney felt some of the tension leave him and he gave Ronon a tight smile. "Good. Thanks."

Ronon merely nodded and walked away without another word.

"Hey," Rodney called after the retreating man. When Ronon looked back at him he said, "Don't start any fights at the funeral."

Ronon gave him a gesture he'd obviously learned from the marines and turned away again missing Rodney's smile.

"McKay," Lorne's voice sounded in his ear.

"Yes, yes," Rodney replied. "I'm coming. I just have to gather a few things from my lab. I'll meet you in the gate room in ten minutes."

Turning off his radio, Rodney headed for his lab comforted in the knowledge that even if he couldn't go with John, John would still have family with him.
