so in the next year im thinking about buying an apartment building. i've been looking into it it all weekend. and i think that im gonna talk to some people i know that already have a few buildings and get some more info on it. but it seems like the best idea for living at the moment. yes you have to deal with all the hassle of renting and tennents ( Read more... )

Every person I've ever talked to who has owned an apartment building has said they wished they hadn't done it. I'm sure there are others who have had better experiences... nevertheless, just be sure to get as much info as you can and talk to as many apartment owners as you can find. It is a BIG committment!

yeah. i have a bunch of people to talk to about it. my dad's best friend owns like 5 buildings. my older step brother owns a building. and a few of my other friends own buildings too, so i have some resources to use

haha thank you. and no. rule number one. never rent to friends or family :)

it's not like this is something im gonna be doing in the near future if i pull this together by next xmas that would be great. i have a lot of research to do in the mean time. this is like 5x as hard as just buying a normal house so we'll see how it turns out.

Well, you DO need to pay your own rent, or at least part of it. Think a mortgage is going to be only $1500 or so a month? I can't imagine. And what if a tenant is late paying rent (don't tell me it doesn't happen)? You can't miss your mortgage payment or you're ALL out of a home. Furnace breaks? You can't call your landlord to fix it.

I guess my point is "Don't imagine its free." Its not.

And I do believe I had the idea first. :P
