I mowed the lawn this morning. I use a manual mower: you know, the kind with exposed spinning blades? It doesn't do as nice a job as the fancy self-propelled-mulching-guaranteed-to-add-three-inches-to-your-penis mower that all my lawn-worshipping neighbors seem to prefer, but it offers the benefits of using no fossil fuels, giving me a little ( Read more... )

May the lone toad-casualty rest in peace.

Bravo on the rescues.

You have blue-tailed skinks! Cool! You know, they grow the tail back, should the spinning blades of death ever nab one.

You have puffballs! Neat! Watch them & learn the timing so that you can harvest them before they go to spoor. They are VERY TASTY sliced & fried like stakes. They always grow in the same place- my dad keeps a list of the locations of puffballs where he turkey hunts so that he can bring them home to eat. His mom used to bitch him & his brothers out something good if they let them go to spoor; puffball season meant good eating in their house.

[You know, save One maybe so that you can Godzilla stompy the thing, but...mmmm...friend puffball...]

So those are blue-tailed skinks. Cool. I don't know why, but I always like to identify the critters I see. I think I need more field guides.

Well, I suppose they could be something else, but the blue tail (well, plus the stripes) doesn't sound too standard reptile-issue, does it?

Maybe a library trip would decide it one way or the other?

YAY! for everything but the dead frog. For him, I am sad.
As far as the puffballs, I was traumatized by mushrooms exploding while mowing the lawn when I was like 10, so no thanks I'll skip those.
