When I first saw the description of this story - linked elsewhere - it was like, "Note to old people (or anybody for that matter), never ever dare a Texas police officer to taser you." And I was worried that it was implying that the old person died after getting tasered. So I didn't click. Glad that she didn't die, at least.
I was working on my friend's pinball machine the other day, and there were a few times when I'd have my hands on two different metal parts hooked to capacitors (the machine was disconnected), and with my elbow resting on the metal rim of the machine - and I would get totally shocked. My muscles would spasm, and at one point my heart started beating really hard. It was intense. It was difficult to avoid. But I eventually figured out how to successfully get around it.
How about this one? http://vimeo.com/4273363?pg=embed&sec= That Coachella one really disturbed me because of all the people yelling but not interceding. I feel like I would have wanted to stop them tazering him but would I have had the courage. What if he had died in front of 100 people all just filming it but no one acting. I understand being a witness is important.
I wish they couldn't get away with this. How is an old woman or a naked man a danger to this cops? The police always say that tazers are there to be an alternative to firing a gun but they are used as tools of submission.
I hate dealing with police and I hate when I have to call them. I had to yesterday actually because a guy was smacking a woman around on this houseboat and I just had to call because I couldn't imagine not. I have had to call the police on my cousin a few times and I saw her tazered once. Ugliness.
it can be an awful world. i still cling to the childhood notion that police are good. i want them to be. i know that often, they are not. and this is somehow really disappointing to me.
i am sorry you are not feeling well. but sleep is healing. perhaps it helped?
That seems to be what most people think. How is tasering a non-threatening elderly woman warranted? Because we are all supposed to be docile subordinate citizens? That's fucked up.
Oh, please. Tasers are intended as a substitute for firearms. They are used to subdue violent, noncompliant perpetrators. What was this old woman really going to do to this guy? He clearly was not in danger. He could have just given her a ticket for sassing an officer or whatever.
