NAME: Dio Brando
FANDOM: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders
ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND: Dio was not born into the Monacello family. He was the son of a poor thief named Dario Brando. Dario, however, had strong connections that Dio would later use to his advantage. Dio hated his father and everything he stood for. He wanted to become so much more than just a poor man. Using his natural intelligence and charisma to hide what he was really doing, Dio killed his father. No one knew that Dio was the one responsible for the death of Dario Brando. The death led to Dio using Dario's connections to be adopted into the Monacello family. He was only 13 at the time.
Prior to this, however, Dio paid a visit to a fortune teller. This wasn't intentional, he was just stopped on the street and offered a few words. Dio chose to listen to the man. He noted the odd birthmark on Dio's left earlobe - three small dots. He had seen it before on only one other person and it was a sign that the person who bore the mark was destined to become very powerful. Dio just walked away and said nothing to the man, but it was those words that finally pushed him to kill Dario.
Dio vowed that he would one day become the Don, no matter what it would take. He knew how to use people to his advantage, how to get them to follow him and obey his every word. He was a smooth talker and a harsh negotiator. Those that didn't go along with his deals met a mysterious end. Those that died were never investigated and anyone who started to question Dio were also dealt with.
Dio was known to be very powerful...Genetic experimentation was the cause of this. Out of need to push himself beyond the limits of being human, Dio underwent experiments to increase his strength, his senses, and his innate ability. The experiments messed with his sanity and slowed his aging process to almost nothing. This is how he maintains his youthful appearance...There were side effects, however: his grip on sanity is tenuous at best, his sleep cycle is reversed, his eyes turned red, and his canine teeth grew...And the thirst for blood, which became troublesome. Usually, the whores he slept with provided a quenching for that thirst and they were disposed of.
He did eventually claw his way to the top, becoming the advisor to the Don at a somewhat young age. His youthful appearance fools people into a false sense of security...In reality, Dio is in his 40s, but he looks no older than 21. The only real tell of his age are his four sons: Versace, Rykiel, Giorno, and Ungaro. None of his sons have the same mother nor do any of them live with him.
Dio has a very closely guarded secret - he is a born Stand user. No one knows of this ability, not even his own sons. None of the other members of the Monacello house know of it. His Stand is known as The World and it allows him to stop the flow of time for everyone but himself (temporarily for only one person) for a very short period (~5 seconds) and grants him superior senses and strength. He does not use these abilities often or even anywhere near other people. Those that have witnessed the power of The World are all the same - dead.
