Bad News and Good News: FALL is on HIATUS, and AN ENTIRELY NEW comic approaches

Edit: The new comic will have speech (sometimes), and isn't about things everyone knows, and isn't for all ages. It is what it is, and you'll soon find out.

I will get straight to the point:

FALL is now on hiatus.

For the past few weeks, it's been harder and harder for me to update FALL. I have been neglecting my comic for quite some time.
It's not because FALL is hard to draw, or hard to write. That stuff is actually very easy. I never run out of ideas, as my idea books carry over 30+ more comics worth of material. When I actually sit down and start drawing, I have no problems at all.

My problem is that I just haven't been in the mood to draw FALL lately.

It's a feeling that has been growing over the past year. It's an emerging feeling that I should draw something new and different instead, to take on a brand new challenge.

Don't get me wrong, I love FALL and it's quirky characters, but there are some things I that find flawed in the comic. FALL is rude and harsh (especially in the first 30 comics or so), and I feel the audience for FALL is a niche in a niche. I've noticed a lot of people who read FALL are other webcartoonists, or people who read many webcomics in general. FALL is very meta, and I have a big problem explaining it to people or even showing it to friends and/or family who don't understand webcomics or any bit of Internet culture.

What I like most about FALL is the process, to sit down for a whole day and just draw. It's a lovely experience, when you have nothing to worry about and you just draw... Every line appearing with the simple stroke of a hand with ease.

But that's been hard lately. When I get home from work, I don't feel like drawing FALL. I feel like I want to draw something else.

I know some of you are saying, "Well, why don't you work on it piece by piece, or on the weekends?"

Like I said, I don't find difficulty drawing. Drawing and updating often on a set schedule helped me to not only draw better, but to be able to work around certain time constraints. However, FALL is dependent on the "Whole day" process. A page or two requires 5-8 continuous hours of my time, time which I don't have each day anymore.

Also, if I draw a part of a comic on one day, and try to draw another part on the next, I feel entirely different that next day... and the next after that. The mood I feel about a particular comic changes completely, and I will feel different about the plot, content, or the punchline. I just want to draw a comic in one sitting and move on, and again, I'm not able to do that currently.

FALL always has been a grand experiment. It was my practice, like playing the scales on a grand piano. Once in a while you fiddle around and play chopsticks.

FALL showed me my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to making comics. It's also lessened some of my previous weaknesses. My art and writing have improved vastly, and I am extremely grateful and proud of that.

So again, FALL is on hiatus, and I don't know for how long. I assure you, my friends, FALL fans, and dear readers, that this is not the end of FALL. I already wrote in one of my ideabooks on how the comic "ends", and it's not time yet. Far from that. The adventures of Maaya and friends will resume at some point.

Now, on to what I consider some good news.

I've had an idea for a new comic for the past year, brewing in my mind, and I feel that with the new year, that it's time for it to emerge. It is not related to any previous works I have done.

I have registered a new domain, and I am still building the site. I am not ready to announce the name yet (if my coworkers are reading this, I think they have a good idea what it is), but I can still give you some details.

The new comic will be:

For ALL ages (Even your mom might like it)
About something everyone knows about, however is a unique twist on the subject
There is no speech, however there are sound effect words and the occasional object with text on them
It will be updated either 4 or 5 days a week (I am still deciding on this) M-F or Tu-F

I am currently creating a buffer for the comic, and you'll either see it sometime next week, or the week after that. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope you will too.

hiatus, new comic, fall, comic
