There's this guy in my 'European Culture & Society 1914-1945' class that annoys the piss out of me, and it makes me a little nervous. Here's why: he raises his hand on average eight or nine times per 75 minute class. When called upon, he rambles on about the subject in a surprisingly knowledgable way, but with very little effort payed towards being ( Read more... )

Yeah you do sometimes rambe on knowledgably, but your concern about it probably means that you'll learn concise expression at a younger age than I did.
Hypothesis: intellect+fabulosity/female=incomprehensible to the grest unwashed.
Incidentally, I imagine you & your therapist are both on to something, that the dismissal is mutual, and that there may even be a feedback loop operating here.

maybe, but I've really been trying! I even smile and ask people if they want to eat lunch together with me!!! Argh, I swear, I just don't know how to make friends without sleeping with them or being wooed platonically by them. Sigh. Anyway, I should get to Chinese class.

You know what, I honestly don't think it's you. Maybe it's a subjective judgement, but seriously, you are awesome. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't made friends with anyone at all in the almost 3 years I've been at my school... but then again, I don't actually try cuz I hate everyone. I don't know, if they are wankers as you say, then why do you want to be friends with them anyway? Just don't blame yourself, is all. I often think about how I wish we lived closer so that way we could see each other more often... because I know you are genuinely good person. So don't worry... there are still people out there who know how cool you are. I know my advice sucks, but hopefully it cheered you up just a little bit.

Aw, you're very sweet to me, and yes, it did cheer me up. :)

I really wish we lived closer too. After I graduate, I want to move away from Burlington for a little while, and I'm considering going to med school in Boston, NY, or Philly--all of which are much closer to you! I can't wait until this semester ends so that we can hang out, even if it's only for a day or two before I fly to the other side of the world. You are such a wonderful lady.
