Why I'm still on Livejournal

Seems like "state of livejournal" entries are so common around here. I've written them before, so maybe this is repetitive, but it never hurts to re-cap where I'm at. I think I will write this one in a frequently asked questions format.

Spacefem, why are you still on livejournal?I've maintained this blog since 2001. Blogging helps me process my ( Read more... )

I love this post!

I cross-post from Dreamwidth, but only so that I've got a full back-up of my journal if something happens to LJ. I feel like my real community is here on LJ.

That’s fair! You are clearly “here”, heck you post more comments than I do, and tell people they can still comment in either place.

It’s the “I’m not even reading lj” cross posts that rub me the wrong way.

Ah, good… I read in both places, I'm not big enough to be a broadcast personalty ;)

I don't need 260 million people to have a network. I need, like, 12.

I totally agree! I check LJ several times each day. FB has gotten so noisy I check it only when I want to post a photo for my family to see. I removed it from my phone because it collected call data from people who don't even have FB accounts. And, again, I am bombarded with "private messages on messenger" that turn out to be messages sent to an entire f-list about something political, or a recipe, or "God loves you!" So now I don't even check messenger.

I read everything in my inbox on LJ. I can look back at my entries and remember things I had forgotten. I have a wonderful, intelligent, compassionate f-list here.

(I do miss Fandom Wank, though. I believe the demise of Journal Fen was due to the exodus of fanfic writers. They were always good for a point-and-laugh.)

I ran into seaquest fanfic once and thought “that’s enough livejournal for today”.

But that’s alright, to each their own!

Honestly if there's one thing I'd change, it'd be about other social networks! Drop the integration.
I agree so much. It seems dumb and redundant. This is why, for years, I've made contact posts to add me other accounts for people to go follow on those platforms.

Oh sorry, I didn't know we only trusted good American companies like Facebook.
I literally felt the sarcasm there. Was awesome. Good american company, my buttocks... They sell your information!

I'm going to do a similar entry with this :D

Selling all KINDS of information, while promoting posts where people will fight with each other :( it’s really sad... controversy sells, I blame them for a lot of bad things in the world today, especially in my country.
