Bones and Chicken on a Chain are both in the shortgo - this should be a great event!
Sean Willingham's up first. Shit! His bull just tried to climb out of the chute, and they lifted Sean off the bull and out of the chute.
Skipped him for now, moved on to Luke, who went off in 3. Sounds like that's the same bull who bucked off Billy Robinson crazy fast yesterday. Luke's finishing 0-2 this weekend, sadly.
Back to Sean, with a rope over the chute to keep the bull from climbing out again. And got Sean off in 4.4, but great score for the bull! 45. Bull's El Presidente, normally a shortgo bull.
Wow, serious bull power. Voodoo Child and Ricky Bobby, in addition to Bones and Chicken. Awesome.
On to Aaron Roy, easy to spot thanks to the Canadian flag on his vest. Aww, off in 3.1. He's rideless this weekend, too. Hmm, I had forgotten the Canadians finished second in the first year of the Cup, too - so that's two second places in two years of Cup competition. Not bad given that the Canadians usually only have a couple of BFTS regulars, compared to the Brazilians and Americans.
JB rides! He's still holding his free arm pretty stiffly once he's off, but no sign of it on the ride. Word from Justin is that he's torn some stuff, but his collarbone isn't broken.
And we're back from commercial. Justin's picked Austin and Marchi as his matchups - thinks Austin will buck off and Marchi will ride. JW's taken Wiley to ride and Josh Koschel to buck off.
Travis Briscoe's up on Major Payne. Bull's unridden in 18 outs. And make that 19, as Travis goes off in 3.2.
Cory Rasch is up. Off in 2.3, though. Ouch, they're showing some of his past, very nasty wrecks. He's had some bad ones.
Austin Meier's turn - time to see if Justin's right in thinking that he'll buck off. Damn, Justin called it. Austin went off fairly quickly. Justin said he called it because the bull is pretty small and Austin is a pretty big guy, by bullrider standards.
*wince* A different world cup ad - this one showing lots of past wrecks. Ouch.
I am honestly disinterested in listening to the Jack Daniel's distiller. Especially cause they're skipping rides for this (I can hear the buzzer in the background). Annoying. *fast-forwards*
Robson Palermo's up. And off in 2.9. Have we even had a ride so far? Ah, right, JB. I do think he may be it, though.
LJ's up - rematch on Sam's Town, who he rode last time. And ... damn, thought he had it but he went off in just over 6, then almost got stomped on, that was close. Really close.
Caleb Sanderson's up vs Leprechaun, for one of Shorty's picks. Shorty's picked the bull. And ... Shorty's right, off in 7.5.
Kody!! He had an 81 last night. Vs Fire and Flame, who's only 3/22, ouch. Justin thinks he'll ride, though, for a good score. And ... c'mon ... yes!! First guy to ride two! 87.25, much better than last night and guarantees him a spot in the shortgo. Probably a good spot, too. Heh - JW's still sulking about Kody turning down the spot on the Cup team, and joking that he'll blame Kody if they lose.
Wow, perfect timing. I fastforward to catch up to live, and it catches up right when the commercials end!
Haha - Code Blue gets waffles (without syrup) after each event because they once held a menu up in front of him and he stuck his nose on the waffles.
Edvaldo Ferreira got a good ride, for 87.5, taking the lead in the go-round. Only saw the replay, though.
Ednei Caminhas bucked off in 3 or so.
Wiley's up! JW thinks he'll ride, and is incorrect, sadly. Crosswired gets him off in 4 and change. Score 44.75. Bull took off for the other end of the arena after Wiley bucked off. He's limping out of the arena. Hehe - JW's making cracks about everyone turning down his World Cup invitations cause they don't like him.
Off to McKennon Wimberly. Off in 4.2. Heh - they're joking about how he hurt himself by falling down the (apparently really steep) stairs coming down from the backs of the chutes. And the really steep steps have now been eliminated.
Kasey Hayes, is ... maybe ... dammit! Not gonna break his buckoff streak unless he challenges, cause the clock stopped at 7.8. And he's challenged it, good. We'll see what the replay judge has to say. And judge says 7.87, so no score. Damn.
Valdiron's up now, vs Hot Pistol, who he's had twice now, and ridden at least once. Bull hasn't been ridden this year, though. Off in 4.7, and very nearly hits the gate on his way down. Fortunately, he hit the ground just shy of the bars.
Back-to-back Brazilians - Marchi's up now. And looking really good - gets a very nice ride, on a bull who really wants a piece of someone! Went running after Frank Newsom. (What is it about Frank? He keeps getting chased! Mythbusters should've just looked at how often bulls chase Frank rather than Shorty when they busted the "bulls chase red" myth.)
Damn - Dirteater went down real quick, just over 2 seconds. They barely showed it, since they're interviewing Marchi.
Skeeter's up! And he looks real solid, until 7.4, when he suddenly falls off. Lost his rope, looks like. Damn. He's not happy with himself for that one.
Dude, fail! The World Cup is airing on Labor Day weekend, a week after it actually occurs! Dammit! That means I have to record it and then probably won't actually be able to watch it cause I'll be in Yuma. SHIT.
While I was ranting, Mike Lee bucked off.
Brian Canter's up next against Red Bone. Bull is unridden in 5 outs and a bit bouncy in the chute. Luke's got a pretty good grip on him, which is good after what happened in San Antonio last week, when Brian's bull actually got into the next chute, leaving Brian behind. Finally got him out of the chute, where he bucked Brian off in 3.6 and promptly proceeded to chase bullfighters. Brian's limping pretty hard.
Dustin Elliott's up. I think they skipped showing him last night. Wow, great recovery! Got the ride - only the 6th ride of 28 outs for that bull. 84.25 score.
Josh Koschel's up. And wow - gets Josh off in 2.2, then hooks him and tosses him up a bit.
Wow - bulls 27, riders 5. Damn. Talk about rough rounds. And the shortgo should be awfully ... interesting.
Hehe - fan questioner's asking if JW and Adriano really don't get along. JW says i's just that they tell each other what they really think and neither of them likes the answers.
Damn, Brendon bucked off. Not a surprise, since he's still getting back from his injury. He, Pete Farley, and Ben Jones will all be on the Australian Cup team.
Zack's up, and off in 3.4. Shorty missed on that one - he said Zack would ride for the round win. They're saying Shorty's 0 for 2, but I seem to remember him being right on the first one, predicting a buckoff and having the buckoff happen right near the end at 7.5.
Chris Shivers is up. Bull, however, is not - he's lying down in the chutes and Chris is re-pulling his rope. Ouch - Chris has bucked off his last 9 - and so has the bull. This may be ugly. We'll have to see.
After commercial, they've either skipped Chris or moved on. Now, Ryan McConnell, who rides very nicely, for an 86. Very good! Hehe - Ryan even managed to point at someone on the back of the chute during the ride.
Cord! Dammit - off in 2.4. But, naturally, he's still grinning. *blinks* Wow, Cord's 3 in a row ride streak coming into this round was the longest of all of the top 40. Not a long streak, but I'm glad it's Cord!
Chris is back, with a new bull - Skyhawk, unridden in 3 outs. And .. he's ... got it! Nice! He's jubilant - first ride in 10 outs. 2 23s for rider scores, for an 88.75! That'll definitely get him back on one - it's got him in 4th.
And Cody Ford, Round 1 winner. And he's ... got it! Gorgeous! And, will he, maybe, wake up Judge 2 ... and he gets an 86.5, so he takes over first from Marchi and gets first pick in the draft!
Off to intermission now, or at least an abbreviated version of it. While there is much talking, I need chicken broth.
Hah - I'm A Gangster and another bull are poking horns at each other through the pen fence.
Draft! Kody takes Chance, JB takes Skyhawk Cut-a-Rug (gambler). Skeeter's taken Code Blue, Valdiron has Bones, Edvaldo Ferreira took I'm A Gangster, Zack took Chicken, Marchi took Pearl Snap, and Cody Ford used his first pick to take Carillo Cartel. Dustin Elliott got last pick - Spitfire. Ouch. Isn't he who broke Matt's face for him last weekend?
And the shortgo is starting! Dustin Elliott vs Spit Fire, and he loses his rope at 3.3. 45.25 bull score.
Shorty's picked Skeeter Kingsolver to ride Code Blue for 94. Apparently he has been wrong all day - I must've been mistaken.
Rocky McDonald bucks off Showtime in 5.1.
Ednei Caminhas is up vs Tahonta's Shadow (2/10). Gets a rough start, but gets the ride in the end - nice! Does some sort of back somersault as celebration - an impression of Renato's backflip? Gets a 90.5 - very nice! Moves him to first.
JB's up now. He's 41% in short goes. And .. c'mon ... and rides! Got a ride on Skyhawk Cut-A-Rug!! They're saying that's his best ride since Bones, and he gets the 90.25 that he needs for the lead! Awesome!
Cord!!! He's on Voodoo Child!!!! C'mon, Cord!! oh, damn. Went off, hit hard and maybe got stepped on. 46.75 bull score. Cord's on his feet, and managed to be moving under his own power once he reached the gate.
Just saw the World Cup commercial from yesterday again. Can't recognize the guy speaking for Australia - probably the team captain. Not certain if Pete really is the one for Australia - didn't get a good enough look.
Skeeter's up vs Code Blue. Damn, off in 3.7 - lost his rope. 46.25 bull score. Heh - JW's teasing Adriano that Adriano called it wrong, and JW said Skeeter would lose his rope. Adriano's now answering JW's taunts about who knows more by parading his three gold buckles.
Sean Willingham vs Hot Stuff, and rides! Very nice! He'll get the lead, for sure - a couple 23.5s for the rider, and a 91.5! Wow! JW's saying he turned him down for the Cup team because of his inconsistency.
3 90 point rides already out of 7! Wow!
Valdiron's up on Bones. This should be interesting. Oh shit - Valdiron hit Bones with his face and is defiitely dazed. Adriano's come out to translate. All of them - Valdiron, Adriano, and the sports medicine guys - are laughing about something, so that's a good sign. Valdiron's up under his own power. Ouch - replay shows he definitely hit the horn pretty hard. Adriano and Valdiron are still laughing as they walk down the hall though, so he can't be too bad. Ednei came out before Adriano did, and I do believe I heard Tandy speaking Portugese before Adriano gt down there - answers
featherjean and my speculation from a while ago about whether any of the sports medicine guys spoke at least basic Portugese for the young Brazilians, so they don't have to be completely reliant on the older Brazilians to translate.
Edvaldo Ferreira vs I'm A Gangster, goes off fairly quickly for a 44.5 for the bull.
Zack Brown (highly distinctive yellow helmet!) vs Chicken on a Chain. Rematch - Zack rode for a huge score last time. And now ... he barely got there, but it looks like he got there! Nice! Wow - 92!! He takes over the lead with his 5th 90 point ride of the year, and the 4th 90 pointer of the shortgo! Only had 8 rides in the long round, wow.
And on to the final 5! Zack's taken his seat on the shark cage. He's got 3 event wins this season already.
Chris Shivers is up now on Deja Blue. And .. wow! Beautiful ride! They're gonna run out of confetti at this rate! He's pulled in a 91.75! One rider score of 24! That gives him the lead! Have they even had a non-90 point ride??
Kody!! Vs Chance! And he rides! First guy to ride 3! That gives him the lead, and it'll be a good one. 89.5 - he won't win if any of the three above him ride, I expect, cause his round 1 score was too low, but he'll definitely finish well. Possibly the first non-90 point ride, but I'll have to wait and check my notes.
Ryan McConnell on Ricky Bobby, and he goes off quickly, in 2.4. 44 for the bull. He still did well to ride both longround bulls - he should be in a good position heading for the World Cup.
Marchi's up vs Pearl Snap. Only needs an 83.5 to lead. Plus a ride may let him pass JB, although he wouldn't make up much ground on Kody. Rough start, and he nearly lost it at the end, but he held on! Marchi was probably too out of shape at the end for a 90+. Ah, under review, to make sure he made the whistle. *twiddles thumbs* Still reviewing. And he gets it - 8.15 seconds, score of 88.5, so he takes the lead from Kody.
Last but definitely not least - Cody Ford is up on Carrillo Cartel. And, will he get it ... yes! Lovely ride, horrendously close dismount, as he landed kind of under the bull's nose. Gets an 88.75, to win by half a point! Good for him!
Great event, and what a shortgo! Awesome! Marchi has passed JB again, and Zack passed Valdiron to take 4th. Kody, naturally, is still holding on to first by over 1300 points. Very fun round!
