PBR Reno - Round 2

I do love PBR!

Last night: only 8 rides out of 40, wow. JB had the high score, while Kody and Marchi both bucked off.

Talking to Ryan McConnel, who got the winning ride in the World Cup. Hmm, can still see the scar on his face from where he cut his face up earlier this season. And talking to JB, who went 5 for 6, bucking off only his last bull, and was the World Cup MVP as the rider with the most points for the weekend.

Michael Gaffney is the rider commentator tonight. I like him well enough, but I do prefer Justin or JW. They're just so damn sarcastically funny. And occasionally brutally honest, especially when talking to or about the guys who were their traveling partners when they were still on tour.

Talking about the championship - JB's taken over 2nd after his round 1 ride. They're saying it's been years since there's been a race this close - wonder if the last time was the 2004 race between Mike Lee, Justin, and Adriano?

Flipped briefly to check on the score of the South Carolina-u(sic)ga game, hoping that SC has taken the lead back. And naturally, they won't actually show me, cause they seem to be arguing about the clock. Is that game seriously only at halftime?? It started at 6 and is supposed to be done by 9! Oh, would someone tell Mark Richt to stop being a whiny little bitch and just give me the damn score?! Bah, 31-23 u(sic)ga. And wow, is in fact only halftime. Commentators say the game is heading for a record, with the first half alone taking over 2 hours.

And I don't actually care, so back to Versus.

Wow, Pete Farley is 5th with an 85.25!! Attaboy!! Way to ride the momentum from the WC!!

I think Kody is trying to grow one of those itty bitty spots of hair on his chin. Not the best look on him.

And we're off! Shane Proctor's up first, took All In, and paid for it when he went off quickly.

Billy Robinson. Only ridden 1 of 17, and he's 43rd in qualifier standings. And the streak continues as he bucks off.

Oh good, Ross Coleman and Chris Shivers are both here. They've been somewhat spotty in event attendance recently with injuries.

Pete! Damn!!! Off in 4.5, takes a big hit, too. Good thing he wears a helmet, cause I think he may have taken a shot or two to the head.

I should be slightly more careful about channel surfing, cause i just missed Bryan Richardson's buck-off. However, I am taping it, so I could rewind, but I don't particularly care enough about him.

Edvaldo Ferreira gets the first qualified ride of the night. Good ride - 85 and change.

Bullfighters look to be Shorty, Darrell, and Frank. Haven't gotten a super close look to make sure it isn't a different bullfighter wearing their colors. Although they did just comment on Shorty, so I know he's here at least. Just gotta watch to confirm Darrell and Frank.

Ross Coleman vs Sir Patrick. C'mon ... aww! I thought he might've had it, but the direction change at about 5 seconds did him in. Heh. Commentators are talking about bull IQ - saying bulls like Sir Patrick and the other top PBR bulls are pretty smart.

Ednei Caminhas, up and off quickly. He's 0-2 this weekend.

Matt Werries - first event since Nampa 2007. Bucked off in the first round. He's 46th in qualifier standings, so he has a lot of ground to make up that he won't manage tonight. Off in about 4.

Rocky McDonald. No comments about him missing his last ride at the World Cup. For that matter, there wasn't any comments about that at the WC. He bucks off, not entirely surprisingly.

ReeseCates bucks off.

Damn. Brendon bucks off in 2.3.

Cody Campbell makes it to 7.4, but cant finish.

Hey, Matt Bohon's back! Haven't seen him since his San Antonio wreck. Man, that was scary. 54th in qualifier standings, though, so he'll have to recover quickly if he wants to make the finals.

*winces* Yeah, more replays of Matt's wreck. That was a scary one, particularly since featherjean and I were there. I could see the blood on his face from my binoculars. He is apparently going to ride helmeted for the first time in his career, and yup, there's the helmet. Let's see how he does vs Jefe ... got a suicide wrap going, and out he goes ... not very nicely out of the chute, but ... aww, had it till 6.6, and just got more and more behind. In the replay, I can see that yeah, he almost hit his head on the chute on his way out. Not a pretty start. But still, 6.6, could be worse.

Kasey Hayes, on a buckoff streak of 14. Clock stopped at 2.7, so looks like they're calling him for a slap, which he will ... challenge, yup. Don't see an obvious slap in the replay, but he did hit the bucking chute at some point, which may not be legal, but hey, looks like they spotted a maybe-slap, maybe not-slap. But the ruling stands - no irrefutable evidence. Kasey isn't happy and doesn't feel that he slapped.

Dustin Elliott's next. Bucks off.

Travis Briscoe - looked like he had it, then got flung hard to the ground after about 6 seconds. Came up kinda gimpy. Limped out of the arena, but is now kneeling and looking to be hurting, dazed, or both.

Aaron Roy - bucked off in 2.2, wow. And Aaron had ridden this bull two or three times! Shorty had just predicted him to ride for 86.5 when he went flying!

Cody Nance. His gear looks enough like Pistol's that featherjean may get confused - white vest, although he does ride in a hat rather than a helmet. Gets the ride for a 90.25!! Beautiful ride! First career 90, first man to ride 2, first 90 of the weekend. He takes over the lead in event and round and helps his current lead over Pete Farley in the rookie race.

Ooh, man! Replay of Mike Lee's wreck last night. Got hit in the helmet and knocked out - walked out, but took him a while. Looks like Mike agreed when Tandy told him to skip the rest of the weekend.

Luke Snyder just rode for an 87.75! Awesome! I think the PBR twitter feed said this is his 260th consecutive event. You know, he may be able to make 300 if he can keep this up for another year!

McKennon Wimberley's up next. He's on Stubby, a bull who's only 1 for 6 and bucked off Marchi insanely fast. This should be ... interesting. McKennon's 4 straight buckoffs, which will ... keep going. That almost turned very nasty, since I think he hung up briefly and got flung around a bit. And yeah, took a horn to the helmet, but apparently not hard enough to phase him.

Caleb Sanderson's out, and ... wow! Lovely ride, just perfect control! Not great bullscores, only nets him an 83.75, but it's only the 4th qualified ride of the round! Out of 24 rides, damn! The overall tour has been riding 39%, but only about 20% recently.

Elliott Jacoby just got his first BFTS ride after 17 outs! Good for him! 86 points, too!

LJ Jenkins is next - he got an 89 last night, nice. He's making a nice comeback after getting cut earlier this season. And ... he just got another one, nice! Second man to ride 2. Takes the lead with an 85.25.

Skeeter goes off in only 2.4 seconds, bummer.

JB!! C'mon!!! And, that was beautiful! Absolutely perfect! 87.25, and he takes over the lead. 3rd man to ride both bulls. I think he's still riding the momentum from the World Cup. hehe, Craig's right - JB is swaggering a little right now.

Ooh, Ryan Dirteater's talking about when his femur was broken. Poor guy - showed a shot of him biting his glove when they carried him out of the arena. Amazing that he came back in 4 months. And went 3 for 6 at the World Cup.

Huh - interesting stat about Dirteater and Austin. When they both compete at an event, they ride about 56.7%. When only one competes, they only ride about 24%. Benefits of friendship?

And Dirteater's now up. And he rides, very nice. Heh - they have one camera inconveniently placed where a bullfighter, I believe Darrell Diefenbach, keeps standing right in front of it during rides. They also played the war chant for Dirteater - they did that in Brazil, too. Can't remember if they've done it before, though I think I'd've noticed it. Not a great score, but it's still a score.

And now Austin's turn. Let's see ... damn. off in 4.5. Comes up limping a bunch, too. His 9th straight buckoff, damn.

Cody Ford. Really far too many Codys/Kodys in the PBR - it gets confusing. Campbell, Ford, Nance, Lostroh ... anyway, Ford's got 2 wins already, but won't get another this weekend - bucked off quickly, and he's now 0-2.

Sean Willingham got called for a slap at 5.1, and I think he went off early anyway. Slap was very obvious, so he didn't challenge.

Wiley! On Twister, who he chose because he liked the name, and it apparently worked! Rode nicely for an 83 and change. Heh, bull is standing in the arena. Doesn't look ready to leave yet.

Renato Nunes's turn. Wow, got flung around like a ragdoll, but got himself straightened out and made the whistle for an 89.25! And backflips off the shark cage, very nice.

Damn, didn't pay adequate attention to Chris Shivers, but he got the ride for an 87. Very good.

Ryan McConnel! Mr Clutch, during the World Cup! He got bucked off very fast last night, so he got one of the lowest, if not the lowest, picks in the draft. So let's see how it goes, huh? Wow!!!! He made that look way too easy! Awesome!!! 87.25, very nice! He's 7th in points, too.

Valdiron's up. Wow, fast-moving bull. Valdiron loses his rope at 4.5, and he's on another short buckoff streak.

Zack Brown's turn. Another fast spinner, who gets Zack off in 5.3.

Marchi's up, and his bull's all over the place. Very excitable in the chute - fortunately Ednei has a good grip on his vest. Marchi got dislodged enough in the bouncing that he has to repull his rope. Wow - bull got him off in 2.4. Don't very often see Marchi go off that quickly, but he's had a few of those lately, both on tour and in Brazil.

Kody!!! Gets the ride! Barely, though, he was hanging off the side towards the end, but it'll still be a really good score! And it's a 90 even! Wow! He misses the round win by only 0.25 points! That'll put him at the best of the riders with only a single ride, in 4th.

*snicker* In interview, JB says someone pointed out to him that he's made the shortgo more times than Kody and Marchi combined - and yet, he's still in third. Apparently that made him realize that he may need to rethink how he picks bulls. (Perhaps taking the hardest bull in the pen every time is not actually the brightest idea?)

And that's all she wrote, I believe. I do love PBR.
