Getting on in life

I'm learning to play the flute. (all of 3 notes for sure so far, and 3 I'm trying for, but I can play really simple tunes that are recognizable, sort of) Biggest problem is that my fingers are double-jointed so I have to think and exercise curved finger posture. Problem is also that everyone I know seems to play an instrument, and most much better ( Read more... )

I can relate to the nonmusician feeling. I lack musical ability (beyond following rhythm and appreciation), though most of my friends do not. Oh, the woes of having band geeks for friends...

I so agree. Everyone else I know plays an instrument. I can't play anything, so I'm learning too. :)

If everyone is playing, who's listening? appreciating? pushing the players to improve?
I probably made a much better audience than musician (ghod knows, when I try to dance, I confirm my position as queen of 2 left feet & counts out loud), but change is good. I console myself with the thought that even if I don't get to the level that I can be called a musician, I will still be a better audience for all my so talented friends. :o)
