Wow. In a way, I agree with a few of her points. Men are fairly simple creatures, and it certainly is not simple to alter a behavioral pattern - but the assumptions and advice provided are horrible! Not only that men are virtually worthless, but that a woman should find a man smarter than herself, that she should pump out a child for the first marginally adequate male she finds...
And I thought misogyny was detrimental to Women's Lib
I hate to say it, but it is the Daily Mail what do you expect? They have a long history of being sexist, classist, and encouraging gender norms. Look up their articles about being childfree, they seem to think that women who don't want children cannot be considered women.
First off, let's notice that cultural differences may apply-- she is British after all. Plus, she's in her 70s, which means she isn't interacting on the same level as someone roughly our age

See, from her article I got less of a commentary on the fact that things in the media portrayed men as lazy/stupid/whatever, and more of an ingrained prejudice on her part of the aforementioned. I don't know a single feminist who goes 'round saying that men are those things (no, not even the lesbian ones), but this article and several other conservative, so-called "pro-traditional family" seem to all espouse this idea, that women need to "get back to their roots" because men are stupid and won't commit unless you mother them damn near back into diapers. While you're cleaning the house to a sparkle. In pearls and heels. And smiling like you just took five Zoloft and washed it down with Cherry Koolaid.
They OPENLY declare that women are weaker and less than men, but if this article for example isn't patronizing and belittling to men, I'm not sure what is.

Yeah, I get that, I was just bringing some stuff for thought up. I think there is a lot of sneaky indoctrination going on in entertainment leading people to not treat each other properly. I mean, can you name a decent couple in any sort of recent media where you actually get to see them interact in a positive, normal way?
You know what: There is a reason why this oh-so-wise person has been married three times, and it's at least partially evident as to why just be reading the article.
Who wants to take relationship advice from someone who has divorced twice so far?
Surely I can't be the only one who noticed this...
Oh no. I did my fair share of laughing like hell at that. The mens obviously got tired of her backward-ass misandrous(sp?) dealings with them, and ran far, far away. Or if they really were grunting caveman moron types, they probably traded her in for a younger/prettier/thinner model. If THAT was the case, she's probably better off.
Just her assumption her man left her because she was less interested in sex, probably more because she was too busy writing to have any time for him. Sorry if you were a fan of Fay Weldon's work, even women aren't perfect sometimes. All men believe that socks make exquisitely charming floor decorations and should be left where they are, picking them up is definitely reasonable grounds for divorce. Lots of love, James xxxxxx
Never read any myself, not knowing how good/bad she was from your point of view, I always put my favourite authors on pedestals and was really disappointed when they turned out to be sexual screw ups in various ways, sorry about being judgemental towards people, I thought that might have been why you were reading that article and reacting to it so much.
