Of course the GAMA* debacle isn't a million miles from that. Regulation is an issue that our government seem loathe to approach for fear of ruining the 'trickle down effect', and scaring off foreign investors. Not that Dell pulled out because of the Lisbon treaty, they just sought cheaper labour elsewhere.
Which is what it comes down to. Ireland is of interest only because of the incentives it offers to foreign companies. There is little to no idigenous industry, aside from the construction-bubble (pop!) and what profits are generated here are shipped off-shore.
Some house-cleaning is required and if there were to be a No result (I doubt there will though - we've been through this before with Nice) I would hope it would inspire some major changes to how our government works and interacts with industry in Ireland.*Reply
