Utah and Brokeback Mountain - Fact or Fiction!!

Jan 13, 2006 01:16

I'm sitting here perusing the Salt Lake Tribune online (the newspaper I subscribe to) and was inspired to create the following Fact or Fiction based upon the news coverage and comments and more comments relating to the Megaplex 17s cancellation of its Brokeback Mountain showing.

The movie is cancelled in Utah.

Fact or Fiction? )

This Utah Mormon (well lapsed, sorta post Mormon--LOL) plans to see it this Sunday (finally)! It still hasn't come to Ogden, but Layton is close enough for me to jump into action and go.

The national attention is embarrassing, but I'm glad in a sense, because Utah as a whole really is an intorlerant place to live, especially if you happen to be GLBT. We deserve this spotlight and hopefully the state as a result will grow up.

sorta post Mormon-- - that sounds just like my dad!! :D

I see your point on being glad, in a sense, for the attention. I would agree that Utah, as a whole, needs to be reminded on a large basis that not everyone is exactly the same, even if they live here, and that's actually a GOOD thing. I include myself in that group that is NOT exactly like everyone else (since I grew up here and was not raised Mormon).
