Suddenly, and without warning...

As many of you know, I'm somewhat of a grammar/word usage/spelling/general English language snob. Though I do tend to use colloquialisms and knowingly end sentences with a preposition, I nevertheless find it terribly bothersome when people put adjectives where there should be adverbs, think double-negatives are okay, or use the wrong word in ( Read more... )

That's weird. I've never seen or heard anyone say, "All the sudden." Not sure that I've heard anyone use "all of the sudden" either. As for writing it, I've learned to eradicate the word from my work (or try to...it creeps in when I'm not looking). It's a hint the writer is an amateur.

All of the sudden, I have the strange urge to suddenly kill the word sudden.

At least it wasn't someone saying "supposibly" as opposed to "supposedly." That one slaughters all rational thought and suddenly makes me want to kill. ;)

YES. And people saying "libary" and "punkin". AAAAAAAAAH. Oh, and Drownd. Like, not the past tense of "drown" but in place of. And "woof" instead of "wolf." And oh god, MaeNell said something the other day which made my ears bleed. I'll remember eventually, and then be sad that I did.

I didn't comment earlier, but I grew up with a lisp. Not a normal lisp, but an "r" lisp so that words like library are difficult to pronounce. It's weird, but i could never say "yellow" correctly either.

I just don't want you to confuse ignorant people from those who truly have trouble saying certain words. I'm was ashamed of it as a child and told people I was from New York (lol I now know how lame that excuse was).

I just know I can never pronounce library correctly. Meh.

But I totally get the grammar thing.

Yeah, I know there's a difference between a speech impediment and just mispronouncing stuff because you don't know how it's spelled. If people have trouble saying stuff I'd never hold it against them.
