Agree about Star Trek. Really good and being a newbie myself, easy to follow and understand.

I like Public Enemies a bit more than you did, but it was certainly not perfect. I think the three main leads (Depp, Bale and Cotillard) were great, but it was more the script/editing that let the film down as a whole. It didn't feel coherent enough and it was slightly too long. However, I'd probably give it more than two stars.

Oh goodie, I put PE under the cut because I wasn't sure you'd seen it yet. I agree that the script/editing was the main downfall of the film, I generally have that problem with most of Michael Mann's films... the last one I remember loving unreservedly was Manhunter back in the day.

It's such a shame to see so much wasted potential which is probably why I'm being so hard on it... I had a lot of hopes for it. While I thought Cotillard was miscast (something about her just threw me) I agree that Depp and Bale were good... unfortunately Bale in particular didn't have much to work with, there just wasn't enough character development. The script really lost me near the end when Dillinger strolls through the offices of the cops investigating him (they're called the Dillinger Squad for pete's sake!) and even chats with some of them and they're none-the-wiser... that was just plain stupid!

Oh well, I'm glad you enjoyed it more at least :-) Now I must be off to find me some Johnny Depp icons... how can I have none?

Yea, I know what you mean. I do feel slightly let down as I did have high expectations. But you're right about Michael Mann - he's got a wonderful eye for detail, and he's good at tension, but they tend to be overlong.

Yes, Purvis was just given stoic and straight good guy, and Bale did what he could with that. But his character wasn't developed all that much. It was very much good guy mould, without any complexities to him, which is a shame. I know it is Dillingers film and all, but I thought it would have more of a Heat style tension than what we were given.

LOL. The Dillinger Squad scene killed me. Our cinema was lolzing at that part. It was VERY STUPID. I mean, all through that film, all the FBI were pretty incompetent. They pick up the girl and don't even *look* for Dillinger who would have been standing right there, lol. They don't notice the black car driving suspciously away?

DEPP ICONS MUST BE FOUND, BB.
