I would really love it if we could get babysitters so we could go to the Opera here in Houston. They have a world-class company and I love seeing opera so much. There's just nothing like live music.
I agree. . . nothing like it. Nothing like trained, crystal voices either! At my Grad School we had some amazing guest teachers/artists as well as a kick-ass opera dept. I got to see so much free opera - free - GOOD opera that I forgot how much I appreciate it. Plus, I'm shallow enough to admit that when the opera singers are easy on the eyes - it just enhances the whole experience. . . .especially when it's like Romeo and Juliette. I really like the current push to make the opera, symphony and ballet "sexier" to get the younger generations interested and draw them into subscribing. If not, it will die when the blue-hair crowd does. I really love how when opera is done welll, you don't need to know what they're saying or even need an understanding of the language of the piece - it's already in your heart - you get it.
