Thinks Ahead opens his eyes to see his mother sitting at his feet like a little bird, with that neat, bright-eyed perfection that followed her into old age and death. He opens his mouth to speak, and she puts a finger to her lips. They both look at Sick Wolf, curled up on his side and fast asleep, and Thinks Ahead gets up shivering the cold of deep night on the northern border, slides his dress on over his head, tucks the robe in around his husband, and follows his mother outside into the snow. It's not really her, of course. Or at least, not all her. But outside she takes his hand and calls him Mouse, the first part of the first name he had ever been given (having been too sickly to be called anything but Stay until then), and he knows she's there with with the Voice of the South Wind, who has come to tell him something

Well, yeah. XD I would have flat-out stolen the name and backstory of Stands With A Fist if I were a worse person. His first actual name was Mouse That Bites, due to the reveal (while still pretty sickly) of his creepy, mad-eyed determination. XD

When children on the plains are born good and fucked up, adults do their best to heal them of their primary physical problems, and then call them Stay, and hope they do.
