So...I stumbled upon this prompt from the first kinkmeme and I'm wondering if it ever got filled. Because I totally just wrote out a 75-chapter-long plot outline for it before thinking to check. XD

What if the Watchmen was just a game the kids played? How would the story be different and yet the same? How would it be changed to be suitable for coming out of a child's mind ( ... )

It takes them awhile to get back into the game after this interruption, but they manage to wrap up the kidnapping by the end of lunch. Back in class, Dan notices Stephen looking at him and Walter funny. He ignores it, but Walter has clearly noticed too, shooting sullen looks back at the blond boy on occasion ( ... )

The next day, things are a little tense at first, Walter barely muttering hello when Dan slides into the seat beside him. Dan pulls out a sheet of paper and passes it over. Walter smiles slightly down at the upgrade plans for the ship they are now calling Archie and doing most of their adventuring in (Dan has already reinforced the sides and bottom with nearly an entire roll of duct tape so that they can bring it out in the clearing without worrying about it getting wet or dirty). A little hesitantly, he begins recounting some ideas he has for today's game, becoming more animated at Dan's encouraging smile, and by the time their teacher arrives, things seem to be back to normal ( ... )

OMG WEE CAPTAIN CARNAGE! It totally fits, though, he seems like a sucker for punishment. But gasp! Sounds like Walter just got everybody in big trouble! Why do I get the feeling that Principal Keene is about to make sure there are no more superheroes on the playground?

This is so adorable, and I hope it stays cute. If it follows the "Watchmen" plotline and the team breaks up, I will BAWW mightily. This fic brightens up my (currently rainy) days. Can't wait for more!

This is so cool. I like what you'vfe done with Captain Carnage - he was such a ridiculous character originally and he's just as ridiculous here, and you've made it believable that they invite Walter right away but not Stephen.

Ahahaha, silly Rorschach.

FFFFFFFFFFFFF!!! Holy crap. You have no idea how much I'm loving this. I thought I'd squee until I barfed while reading this last update! The bit where they go to the comic shop to visit Eddie in particular had me literally flailing my hands like a brainless fangirl and squeeing and giggling so hard there were tears in my eyes. And I loved li'l Ror's ranting! Gah! You're killing me! I can't-...ngh...words! FUH!! ~ <3 <3 <3

Growing Up Is Not An Absence Of Dreaming: Halloween Interlude 1/2 anonymous October 27 2009, 02:19:11 UTC
This is just a quick, rough thing, set between parts 7 and 8, I think. I'm not entirely happy with it but I'm posting it a. because I haven't updated in so long (sorry about that, will get back to on it ASAP! Brain being slightly eaten by porn...) and b. I needed to expand on Walter's background somewhere, and it didn't want to fit into part 10. Will probably expand on this, clean it up and make it its own part when I post the fic on my journal. Inspired by this adorable pchat drawing by slipstreamborne. The night is exactly what Halloween should be, crisp and cool with the moon hanging huge and deep-orange in the sky. They get a few strange looks in their costumes, but none of them cares. They may not look like any of the comic-book superheroes roaming the streets, but they know that they are something special, something real, unlike those off-the-rack heroes ( ... )

*melts into a puddle of caramel apple GOO*

My heart is breaking for wee!Walter right now. At least he seemed happy at Charlton Home in the GN. This is just... cruel. (And even worse because it's true. We adopted my two little sisters from a foster home like that. It was deplorable.)

Although, if he's being fostered, that means he's technically eligible for adoption, y/y?? Oh, plzplzplz say it's so, and that Walter can have a real mommy or daddy!

Yeah, this is partially based on one of my friends from elementary school who was fostered. It was a slightly better situation than Walter's, but they really did foster about five kids at a time for the money. They also had three or four of their own kids, who of course always got preferential treatment. :/

And, um, sorry, but I think Walter's life is going to continue to suck pretty hard for the majority of this fic. :( *Pats poor little Walter*

Oh god, I've just discovered this fic and it melted me completely. It's just too much adorable to be taken in at once. It should comewith a warning.
That is to say, I love it utterly.

The mood inside the treehouse that afternoon is definitely subdued. No one feels much like adventuring and no one knows what to say, so they sit largely in silence. Walter is in detention, which will probably not be the last of his punishment. Stephen wasn't seriously injured in the five-foot drop, only had a slightly twisted ankle and the wind knocked out of him, but he could have been. Walter spent a good deal of time in the principal's office, refusing to talk to Dan when he returned to class, and they're all anxious to know the outcome.

"Why did he have to do that?" Laurie finally bursts out. It would seem random after several minutes of not speaking at all, were it not what they're all thinking. "I mean, I didn't want him there either, but Walter didn't have to push him like that," she continues miserably ( ... )

"Walter..." Laurie starts, but he's already walking away.

There's a moment where they all look at each other, stunned, not knowing what to do or say, then Dan mutters, "Oh, hell," and takes off after him. The rest of them blink after him in surprise. None of them swear much, Dan least of all. They exchange hopeful glances, though -- if anyone can talk Walter into rejoining them, it's Dan.

He chases Walter for several blocks, until they're both out of breath, finally managing to catch the redhead's shoulder and pin him against a wall with more force than he would have expected of himself.

Walter stares back at him miserably. "Let me go, Daniel. I get it, you don't --"

"No," Dan gasps, "you don't. You don't get it at all. We missed you --"

"Don't have to lie. I saw you..."

"I'm not lying," he insists. "We did. We only started playing again because...we didn't know when you were going to be back. We didn't know if you were coming back. You've been avoiding all of us at school ( ... )

Oh, man. This pretty much broke my heart. I can't wait to see how things go from here on out. (Mr. Keene as principal! Should be laughing or crying?)
