I'll come back for you. It echoes in her head as she counts the days, watches them spin out into weeks and months. He should have been back by now. Should have been back sixteen marks ago, where she's chipping them into the bole of her tree to keep track of the days. She had begged to go along, pointing out that they had only met because of a shipwreck, and if his luck stayed the same way, she wanted to be with him. Her mate is usually fairly tractable. It's part of what she likes about him, and even if the rest of her troupe chatters that it's only because he's the only specimen of her own kind she's ever seen, she knows it's not that. Besides, they only want their men once a month, and don't really know what it is to be lonely for them. Anyway, that docility had given way to the steel core of his nature. He had explained to her over and over how women were treated in his world, and the way she would be expected to conduct herself. He refused to take a queen to a country where she would be enslaved, and had vowed to return ( ... )

In the end, a ship takes her aboard, and she doesn't have to depend on the kindness of dolphins the whole way. It takes long enough to find human waterways that she's down to sucking the moisture from raw fish, though. Dan's ride home had only come by because they had lost their way in a tropical storm and needed fresh water. She doesn't mind. They're refreshing in the heat, and their flesh is delectable. The humans take her aboard boat and all, and she is amazed at their cunning in being able to do so. They stare at her in amazement, and she keeps her cloak around her as she stands up, remembering how shocked Dan had been. She steps onto the deck, and looks at the shocked white faces. "Where are you bound?" Her English is good. A girl who had learned all the languages of the animal folk of the island was naturally gifted at mimicry and retention ( ... )

Everything is green. A thousand thousand shades of emerald, all glowing with sun and buzzing with insects. It's a beautiful place to die, and the golden phantom who shimmers into being before him is more beautiful still. He offers up a silent prayer of gratitude that his glasses have survived and he can clearly see the girl standing in front of him, naked as the day she was born and unashamed as Eve before the Fall. Her dark hair is wild and filled with a riot of flowers, and three brilliantly blue butterflies are perched wing to wing near her clavicles, making her perfect breasts all the more obvious. He feels like a cad for looking, but he has no control over it anymore. Her nipples are a rich pink, and the curve of her hips makes him ache. She kneels down beside him and pulls her head into her lap and oh god he can smell her, clean and sweet and wild. She carefully drips water into him with a gourd, going back to the spring he can faintly hear twice to get more. He takes every drop, unimaginably thirsty after days of ( ... )

unashamed as Eve before the Fall. And this is the reason, why OT3 is possible. Laurie is pure and not tainted of the filth of the sociaty. So.

"So help me Kovacs, if I didn't owe you so much I'd fight for her honor even now." This turn me utterly on. Dan is such a knight and Gentlemen <3 Walter how can you! Fight!Fight!Fight! In the rain or mud. Come on guys. Thanks anon. Thanks ^^

Apparently the strange sounds are Français, and by the time they reach their destination she knows most of its more important calls. There's the one for being separated from your troupe: Je suis perdu. The one to find people who understood your own calls: Est-ce que n'importe qui parlent anglais?, and many others. Humans are complicated. They put so much of what they're talking about into noises. She had always been a chatterer among the apes, but she's beginning to think it's an inherent quality. In return, she teaches Marie, the younger one, to talk to seabirds. Her accent is poor, but if she ever truly needs to be guided to land or to beg for fish, she can ( ... )

The next morning she brushes off the leaves and walks back into humanity again. She buys two books at random and goes to board the train. It makes too much noise and it smells horrible. She can tell she's going to hate it, but if it will take her to Dan, she'll put up with it. After the horrible, lurching start, she devotes herself to her books, since her reading isn't as good as it should be and there's nothing else to do.

"Boss, if you don't get back in bed I'll kill you myself ( ... )
