Eddie keeps a photo of Laurie next to his bed. He ripped it out of a maganize, and there's still a bit of the glowing blue bastard's hand visible on her shoulder. His counterpart keeps looking over at it. He offered her a cigar, but apparently the female version of himself had given them up at some point. She kept fiddling with the top button of her blouse, instead.
Finally Eddie can't take it any longer and picks it up. "That's Laurie," he says. "Laurel Jane Jupiter. Well, Juspescyk these days. Sally Jupiter's kid. You got one where you come from?" He can't figure how, since Edie lacks certain very necessary parts for impregnating a woman. Abruptly he finds himself remembering his girlfriend from Vietnam. Damn bitch probably was wrong about whose kid it was, anyway. He keeps very tight to that idea, because it allows him to sleep through the night ( ... )

She has a hell of a right hook and Eddie's in no hurry to feel it again, so - what the hell. "You tried harder than I did with Laurie," he says.
Edie laughs. "Didn't have much choice." But her posture is relaxed, a little, and she takes a few more puffs on the cigar before setting it down in the ashtray. She's just fretting.
He knows the cure for fretting, and he should probably feel perverted for thinking about it but the urge to think sex could ever be perverted sort of got drowned out at some point, probably while he was staring at some poor schumck's entrails spread out on the ground.
