If you had the oportunity to move to another city in 1 month...would you do it?

Just to clarify...my friend just moved to Montreal a few months ago and there is a spot opening in her apartment on Dec 1st.  I'd have to find a job (that pays better than Home Depot) and move, in just over a month.  What should I do??  Even for thoses of you who don't ( Read more... )

I think my reply needs a little clarification.
Start looking for a job now.....but don't move unless you're sure that you can afford it. You don't want to move out and screw anyone over if you realize you can't afford it.

so doooo it.
dooooo it.

I don't know you very well at all but as long as you dont mind me sticking my nose in your business lol

Anyway, I would probably jot down the pro's and con's of moving. (because Im a freak and make lists for everything haha)
For example: you will be moving in to the same building with a good friend but what about the one's you leave behind?
Are you bilingual? a job may not be that easy to find right away. Can you support yourself for a while?

But on the other hand, why not take a chance? You could be missing out on fun and some good opprotunities if you stay here. If you're living at home right now I'm sure you could move back if you needed to.

thanks for the reply...it think it's better to get advice from thoses who don't know me as well cuz they are more objective and can point things out that may get overshadowed by the rest of my life. I did the pro/con thing and it didn't really help much. I am bilingual, but i would need a job before going because i have no money saved away so i can't just go and live off savings for a month. I agree with your last staement though...iI NEVER take chances so maybe I should just go for it this time!

I never take chances either, instead I over analyze. But I wish I could and I honestly would have trouble deciding in your situation. I hope whatever you do is the right decision. :)

I'm with Sean. If you can afford it, go for it.

I have this theory, that it's easier to be successful outside your hometown/where you've gone to school. people in your hometown/place of schooling already know all about what kinda stuff and what kinda people go through the school programs there, and what the teachers produce. going to Montreal (or anywhere) for work after being at school in Ottawa shows the potential employer that you've got enough maturity to be out on your own, you've graduated from a school that's got a decent reputation,(or at least, they havn't seen first hand the mischief people get up to durring frosh week from that school) and people who move away from home are (generally speaking) more outgoing, better workers.

besides, they're less likely to check references who're long distance phone calls away. :D

the only problem is that i haven't graduated from school yet...technically i haven't started yet!! and that's one thing about going to montreal, is that i've looked and can't find any programs at either Concordia or McGill that interest me...whereas there a quite a few at Ottawa U that do.
