Officially a second year!

That means by this time next year I'll officially be a Ph.D. candidate (assuming I pass my prelim)! Exciting times. So I have a thesis lab! In case anyone gives a damn, I joined this lab: http://www.med.upenn.edu/apps/faculty/index.php/g20000320/ ( Read more... )

Thanks! Judging by your posts, it seems like you're keeping pretty busy too. I hope all's well on your end :)

You should get on their mailing list, it's awesome. You get things like $25 to a restaurant but it only costs $10 or really expensive spas for 95% off.

yeah, groupon is a silly name, but it's totally worth it! I almost bought the one today that was $22 for 35 cookies...

Yay, you'll be one of the people working on filling in the blank spots in textbooks.

Sometimes I love the internet just for bringing me the interesting things people are doing. I actually saw something similar about living off of coupons in a blog, a guy whose sister challenged him to eat on $1 a day. btw: hooray, internet fame.

Yeah! It's really exciting to have a semi-set direction for the next few years. You're going to grad school for library sciences, right? That sounds like it will be a lot of fun too, although I have to admit I don't know what that degree entails.

That looks like an interesting blog, I'll have to take the time to read it. And yes, hooray internet fame!

I don't know why, but I've always enjoyed blogs/books that deal with "and this is what I ate"....>.> (like Robinson Crusoe)

I don't really know what my degree entails either...learning the best way to organize information, the history of how libraries are useful, how technology affects research. I hope I don't end up as the least interested person in the program.

That all sounds great! I'm very jealous of you seeing Patrick Steward, even if you didn't get to meet him...

Reading for pleasure is wonderful. I miss it so :( Hope you manage to keep it up.

Yeah, it's been an awesome year. I meant to comment on your latest post because I thought it was really interesting that you got to interview Slyvia Plath's daughter. It sounds like it was quite the experience, although I hope your article doesn't get butchered too much :/

And yes, I hope I can get through a few books this summer, I haven't read one for pleasure since Thanksgiving.
