stranger in a strange land

I realize I'm preaching to the choir, The room Steph and I live in is a blue area in a very red house. Unsurprisingly it's CNN in here and FOX news out there. Normally I smile and hold my tongue, but occasionally things just slip out when I walk by pictures on FOX of President Obama signing his directive to end trials at Guantanemo and, oh, MAKE ( Read more... )

I know! Who knew moving in here would be like moving in with -my- parents in that respect?! Seeing how FOX news affects Nana is definitely adding evidence to the fact that I believe it brainwashed my mom.

But don't forget, Lafayette is a liberal town! ;)

For the sake of clarity for those of you who are not me... ;) When I say that I believe FOX news has "brainwashed" my mom, I'm not referring to beliefs or outlook on political topics. I'm referring to the de-humanizing of those deemed "liberals."

I focus on FOX news because my mom has listened to conservative radio (Rush Limbaugh and others) for years, but I have been far more concerned with her outlook on other human beings since watching FOX. Also, I imagine reading Ann Coulter hasn't helped...

I grew up being fed steady diet of Limbaugh and Coulter. How I managed to keep my mouth shut that whole time I don't know.

My mom still tries to send me Coulter's books. I throw them away as soon as I receive them. I think that woman just might be the devil.

I know. BELIEVE me I know.

The 'FOX news' logo is burned onto the bottom left corner of my parent's TV screen. My mom turns it on first thing in the morning and doesn't turn it off until they fall asleep at night. It's like their IV - they'll suffer liberal brain-washing unless they get their continuous fix of 'fair and balanced' TRUTH. She even leaves it on when we leave the house - she says so that the 'dog doesn't feel lonely'.

I really, REALLY, hate FOX news.

And you're right, it could be worse. At least your folks don't think Obama is secretly an illegal alien pretending to be an American citizen.

OMG, is it possible that your mom and mine are the same person?? I had no idea there was another woman out there that did that - left the TV on FOX news ALL DAY EVEN IF NO ONE IS HOME. Although my mom doesn't have the fake excuse about the dog - they have no pets. Oh wait, yes they do. Maybe she does do it for the fish... =P
