FYI -- the perspective on the science drawing is a little wonky: the floor tiles have a higher vanishing point than the other stuff, and the edge where the wall meets the ceiling is curved.
yeah, I was experimenting with ways to make the background more "dynamic" so I used a bit of lens distortion in Photoshop to give the background a very slight curve. But the tiles heading towards a higher horizon line than everything else would be one of those mistakes I mentioned. :)
Regording "worth doing badly", I'd have to say I agree. More and more lately I get to a point where a figure is good enough, only people better than me will notice the flaws, and I'm tired of trying to fix it. Yes I can take five more hours and take it up the next level, but most of the time I really don't want to.
That quote about creativity certainly stuck a chord with me... I've been in the same boat of sitting with my sketch pad in hand, wanting to begin on a drawing but being so afraid of mucking it up... when I gird up my loins and do it anyway, I've actually done better than I thought, even though I have a long long way to go to where I'd consider my efforts 'good'. Ah, me. Learning to let myself have stepping stones to getting better isn't easy, but it's kinda fun in retrospect.
I love that poster you did for your dad. That gave me a belly laugh as well!
Good to see you posting, James. I hope everything continues to get better, even by increments. Determination is half the battle. Keep us posted! ;)
