I read through the rulebook having been turned onto 4e when I listened to the Penny Arcade D&D podcast episodes, but was turned off by what was in the book. It seems too much like "Dungeons and Dragons, the Board Game!", like the old Dragonquest and Heroquest games.
As a DM I've been loving play by post, though. I can double check rules and setting information and agonise over decisions without any awkward pauses and book flipping.
