Kris Allen - Knitting Factory at Reno, NV 11/16 (opening for Lifehouse w/ Alyssa Bernal)
I had an amazing time with teamaims, lithoboly, and odontv at the concert last night. They are such good times!!!!
This is totally tl;dr
My adventure started with me picking Aimee up and then getting lost on our way to Maggie's house (GPSs are the devil!). After some frustration and literally going around in circles, we got to Maggie's place and picked her up. We immediately started gushing over Kris, talking about Clay (i wonder why...), and then Kelly, and finally about Kris's bald spot (we're bad krisberts :x). We also talked a lot about Idol in general and it was all around good times. Thanks Aimee and Maggie for making this 4 hour drive so much fun!!!!!!
So we get to the venue pretty early (~4:30pm, doors open at 6:30pm). The buses were just waiting right outside so we decided to just start lining up. Kris and the band passed by us a few times and we just gawked at them and didn't really say hi (we were too shy!). We hear some sound checking going on but I didn't think anything of it because the song didn't sound familiar. Luck would have it that the will call office is on the other side of the venue door from where we were. I walked towards the will call office and past the wide open double doors to the venue and i did a double-take cause there was Kris and the band sound checking. Then it hit me that kris is on stage, singing a song that i do not know. Ensue flailing and spazzing. I call Aimee and Maggie over and they didn't recognize the song either. After a while they closed the double doors so the sound got muffled but omg we were trying so hard to figure out what it is. I kept checking my twitter feed to see if anyone else knew anything and also checking lyrics sites and such. But no luck.
The song was a midtempo ballad, very pretty and catchy, and a little country-ish. It had a yearning feel to it. Snippets of lyrics are "make it up to you tonight" and "don't wanna leave you alone". But as with any kris song, misheard lyrics are a 99.9% possibility. I don't know if it's b/c it's not completely written but it sounded like the chorus was repeated a lot and that's why i was able to catch those words.
So anyway, after more waiting we were finally let in. Steve gave me a setlist right before kris started cause i asked (NOT b/c i flashed him, according to some people...teamaims). i also ended up getting a guitar pick from kris at the end of his set. he has personalized ones now lol. they're white and have his name on it.
He got a really good crowd response right from when he stepped up on stage to when he finished with CT. he sounded awesome and i totally swooned when he did RG. he just sounds so amazing live and every time i see him i'm reminded of it. Maggie and I also noticed that he was chewing gum the whole time. I hope he doesn't choke on that someday D:
Crowd participation was very good during AWM and LLWD. Some people were definitely more into it than others but he got a pretty impressive sounding applause after each song.
We were right up against the barricade in front of the stage and they had these ladder / stools lined up in front of it. I put my purse and drink there during the show so I could take pics and tweet. Well, during CT Kris got in front of the barricades and wanted to stand on the ladder/stool. He looked down at my purse and drink and I think he wanted to move them but wasn't sure what to do with them. I was completely not helpful b/c he was a foot away from me and I was just staring. Well my purse and drink ended up on the floor somehow lol (that douche). So he's singing CT and his chest is literally right in front of my face. I tried really hard not to molest him but then i saw Maggie do it so i thought "oh what the hell *grabby hands*". I shoulda licked him.
So, yeah. Amazing show!!!!!!!!! And of course Kris got the crowd to sing Happy Bday to Andrew which was all kinds of adorable b/c Andrew was totally embarrassed <3__<3.
After the show we all ended up outside but the band was already on the bus (except Cale, who was getting food apparently). Steve was packing up behind the bus so i went up to him to try to get information about the unknown song from the soundcheck. He said it's a cover but didn't know the name of the song and i took his word for it.
So I went back over to Aimee and odontv and I said I want to ask the band! They said i should just knock on the bus door so i did (thank you, 3 red bull vodkas for the courage lol). i didn't expect them to answer, or even if they did, they would just tell me to go away, but andrew opened the door and i started asking him about the song. he wouldn't tell me anything and i said "steve said it's a cover" and andrew was like "no" lol.
That's when kris comes up to the front of the bus so i step onto the bus and ended up chatting with them for a few minutes at where the driver area is. I got a very small peak at the back of the bus, but not enough to see anything interesting; Andrew and Kris were blocking my way *shakes fist*
So from kris, i learned that it is an original song that he wrote but he wouldn't tell me co-writers (if any) or what the name of the song is. he just asked me if i liked it and if i would buy it and i said "yes, it was awesome" and he said "ok good" lol (tease!). i was definitely tipsy so i probably repeated my question of "so it's an original, right?" a lot but he was really nice and answered it again and again anyway *facepalm*.
i told kris they should really try some asian food when they're in SF this weekend since that's what we're known for and he said he didn't really know where to go. I offered jokingly that "i could totally show you" and he said "yea? really?". I spazzed and said "yes! you want me to?! let's set this up!!!!!" and he kind of backtracked really quickly probably because he realized i'm a crazy lady lol. i ended up saying i will tweet them suggestions and i told him my twitter name. omg he prob thought i was crazy and wanted to stalk them (psshh..as if i would...ahem) and wanted to call security on me. oh, and during this whole time andrew was just sitting there picking a melody on his acoustic guitar. i wanted to shush him because he made it hard for me to hear kris since he's mumbly and not a very loud speaker :X (sorry Andrewberts).
So I eventually got off the bus and then there was Cale with food. I told him I'll be at the SF show and that I would tweet him food suggestions for the city too. I told him my twitter name and he said "you never tweet me!". I was all :OOOOOOOOOOO b/c he would actually remember? wat? He was probably just saying that but it made me laugh.
So after all that we finally pack up to leave. We drove odontv to her car and then Maggie, Aimee, and I headed home, but with an extra passenger in the form of a cardboard cut-out. Let's just say he's a common trending topic in some form or another lol.
OK, that's it. So yea, awesome night.
