Chapter Five
Spike stood by the window lookig out into the dark night. It had started raining a little while ago. Seemed the weather still changed, even in a appocolypse. Leaning his head against the window pane, Spike didn't know quite what to make of what he was feeling. Seeing Angel so soon after getting his soul, brought back feelings he never wanted to have again. Feelings he hadn't allowed himself to feel for over a hundred years.
Loving Angelus had taken everything in him. He had worshiped his sire from the moment he had seen him. And he had foolishly believed Angelus when he said they had eternity together. Turned out they only had fifty years, such a short eternity it was. He remembered well the night his Sire had disappeared. It was the night Darla had forced Angelus to go hunting with her. He and his Sire had plans that evening, but they had soon changed when Darla furious that her 'boy' hadn't paid her any attention in days. Angelus had left with her, casting him a look of regret as he had once more broken a promise to him.
And he had sat there heart broken once omre while Angel once again ran to do his bitch of a sire's bidding. He had waited in vein for Angelus's return. The way he always had, and the wait had turned into one hundred years and counting. Yes he had returned to the fold, so to speak. WHen he had killed his first Slayer. But he hadn't returned to him. In fact he had ignored him, only attention he had recieved was the short 'I guess that makes you one of us.' comment from him. He didn't want to remember their one disasterous conversation. It was something he never allowed himself to do.
Seeing Angel once again on the sub, he didn't allow himself to hope. Turned out he was right in not doing so. As his Sire had once again denied all they were to each other. He'd taken it better than the first time though. There were no tears shed for the senseless love he had felt. He had convinced himself that he hated Angelus. Which was all it ever really was. He could admit it to himself, he didn't hate Angel. Had never hated him, it was a front. All part of the Big Bad cover he had going on.
No one had come close to what he had felt for his Sire, not even his dark princess. Although she had come close. Buffy and what he had felt for her was something he hadn't quite figured out yet. Was it that he knew Angel had loved her and he was desperate for anything that his Sire had touched? That was another thing he didn't allow himself to dwell on. So now he was avoiding Angel. He knew it and he knew Angel did too.
"Hey, Blondie. What are you doing in here all alone?" He turned to find Dawn stadning in the doorway, unsure as to welcome. And he felt a twinge regret inside him. He had snapped at her earlier, and he could see the hurt in her eyes. Damnit, he just wanted a little time alone was all. Forcing a smile he motioned her into the room.
"Not a thing, Bit. Just thinking. And why are you still up?" He said quickly wanting to direct the conversation off of him. He knew why though, nightmares had invaded all of their sleep it seemed. The Bit always hunted him right around this time. When the nightmares awaken her, she needed him to talk to.
"Couldn't sleep." Dawn said walknig further into the darkened room. Sitting down on one of the chairs, she watched the younger vampire as he tried to pretend everything was alright. Xander's comments ealier had put even more guilt on his shoulders. She knew he had held himself responsable for everything that had happened to Buffy. But no one else had ever blamed him. And hearing it was the last straw for him, he had pulled even further into himself. Not letting the pain show from Xander's unfare remarks, he had just left.
She knew Xander was scared and the last thing they needed was the extra worry of Faith. But she also knew that Spike couldn't face Buffy alone. And Faith was their only option. She knew Angel's being there wouldn't make a differance in Spike's way of thinking. He trusted Angel about as much as they trusted Faith.
"Willow and Giles are having trouble getting everything they need for the spell." She said, not wanting to talk about the nightmare that sent her in search of her vampire protector. He knew that was enough.
Spike knew it wasn't going to be easy, finding everything they would need to perform the spell. Not to mention Willow's weariness of doing magics. But he knew she would despite everything. Just the way he went on living. They both knew they were needed, and tried to keep the pain and guilt out of it.
"If there's a way Red will find it." Spike said, putting a confidence in his voice he wasn't feeling. Since Tara's death and Willow's venture into the dark magics. The young wicca hasn't been using her talent. So they had no way of knowing how it would affect her. Would openning her up again to the magics, channel what he had come to call it 'Dark Willow'? Meeting the teens eyes he saw a answering worry there. She more than any of them knew how it felt to be on the recieving end of Willow's dark side.
"Let's join them shall we?" He said softly, then turned to leave the room, Dawn following closely behind. The scene they came upon would've been funny if it wasn't so dire, Willow was surrounded in light and Xander was hanging in mid-air screaming at the top of his lungs to be put down. And the rest were standing around helpless having no idea on what to do. If they tried to free him, there would be no telling what the consequinces would be, for either of them. So they stood there waiting to see what was going to happen.
Meeting the eyes of his Sire he knew his days of avoiding him were over, they would have that talk, just as soon as whatever was going on here was done. And strangely enough it didn't bother him as much, he knew what ever Angel had to say wouls bounce off the walls he had built around his heart. He was through tryring to earn Angelus's love, he was resigned to the fact that his Sire had never really loved him. Wanted him yes, but love him? Never. Proof was in the pudding they say. And Angelus proved to him time and time again that he had never loved him.
Coiming back to the presence with a jolt, Spike watched as the map lying before Willow started glowing, seemed the spell was a sucess. The only problem was the light was spread through out the world and there was no possible way that could be possible. What in the hell was going on here? Spike wondered and so apparently did Giles. If his out burst was any indication.

" What in the world? That isn't possible." Giles said, looking at Wesley and encountering a simuliar look of disbelief.
"What? What isn't possible? I knew this was a bad idea." Xander asked anxiously, still shook up from his Peter Pan act. Taking off his glasses, Giles ignored the question. As he did with so many of the out bursts Xander made. Willow still weak from the spell, said nothing. Though she felt her confidance building back up. Magic as long as it was used for good. Was not of the bad.
"How could the spell be wrong though? It never was before."
"Seems alot of things are happenning that never happened before, Watcher. The Hellmouth's openning for one. " Spike said, breaking his silence. Shifting uncomfortably when everyone turned their attention to him. It was the first time he had willingly said anything since he suggested they find Faith.
"While this is true. It still doesn't explain anything. The spell is only meant to reveal the active Slayer. Not the potentials." Giles responded. Wesley nodded in agreement.
"Rupert is right. So either something went wrong...or-"

"We got our selves a bunch of untrained Slayers running around. Bloody hell." Spike finished. The room grew quiet once more, each of them lost in their own thoughts. Each of tehm thinking the same thing. How many young girls out there were walking around with super human strength, but more importantly how were they going to find them?
