Chapter Eight

Looking out into the darkness, Buffy reflected on what her life had become. The way everything had changed with in a blink of an eye. She loved being a vampire, and the freedom it gave her. She used to think becoming a vampire would be the worst thing to happen to her. It turned out to be the best. It was refreshing not to have to worry about saving the world. The pressure of it was over whelming at times. And the guilt when she failed to meet everyones expectations, it laid on her like a virus. Hacking away at her imune system until there was nothing left.
Was this what Spike meant when he said he was never really alive until he became a vampire. It used to disgust her the way violence made her feel. It wasn't a problem anymore. And the connection she felt to her sire was unlike anything she had ever felt before. Turning from the window she looked at the sleeping form of her maker and smiled. He made her what she was and for that she was grateful.
"Why are you over there?" The sleep roughened voice asked, causing shivers to run through the former Slayer. Smiling she went over to the bed and climbed in.
"Can't sleep. Sorry if I woke you up." Buffy said leaning down to kiss the mouth that brought her such pleasure. The dark haired vampire pulled her into his arms, deepening the kiss.Breaking the lore against turning Slayers was one of the best things he had ever done. It wasn't just because doing so was relevant to the plan he had formed to get back at Angelus. It was also because being a Slayer she was alreay familiar to so many of their ways he had very little to do in the form of training.
Breaking the kiss he looked down into the green eyes of his childe, she was a real beauty, too bad he would eventually have to kill her. She needed to die a dusty death in order for his plan to go on. But not for awhile. He thought, pulling her unresisting body underneath his. He'd enjoy her while he could, and when the time came to kill her he would do so, with no regrets.

Pulling back from the sobbing teen, Spike wiped her tears away with gentle hands. He knew this was something he'd have to tell Giles, but not just yet. Dawn wasn't ready for all the questions it was bound to bring up. He knew forst hand how it felt to be controlled by something stronger than you. It made you feel powerless. Made you wonder if you would ever be totally in control of your life again.
When he first found out about the chip, he wanted to die. He couldn't believe anyone would be so cruel. Humans were just as bad as the demons. They killed, and they did it for more selfish reaons than vampire's did. The soul made him realize lots of things. One of them being, just because you had a soul. It didn't mean you were good. The soul didn't make a differance. He still craved the hunt and the thrill of it. A soul just made you aware of the wrongness.
He knew if he were to loose his soul right now, he wouldn't kill. No he lost interest in it. He made friends with the food, and there was no going back. And he didn't want to. He knew he was never a very good vampire. Too human was what Darla had always said. She never heard of a vampire that could love. Spike knew they could though. At least this vampire could, love's bitch that's him. He could love, though not always wisely. His love for Angelus should have bought him a very big clue. Stay as far away from love as possible. It hurt too bad when it went wrong.
"Come on, Nibblet. We'll get to the bottom of this. Whatever is messing with you will have to deal with the Big Bad too. And you know I never back down from a good fight." He fought a smile when he hears the laughter break through the tears. He had no clue what was messing with the Bit, but he wasn't lying when he said it would have to deal with him also. He wasn't letting anything happen to the one person who made his unlife worth while.
"Thanks, Spike. I knew you would understand. Your the only one who ever treats me like a person, not just a teenager playing at being grown up."
"Yeah, well you had to deal with more shit than any other teenager ever had to." Spike told her grinning. Happy that he seemed to have calmed her fears, if it was only for a little while.
"Now let's go see if we can find the others. I have this insane urge to pick on the Whelp." Spike told the giggling teenager as he led the way to the door. Following closely behind she said.
"Will you two never act your ages?"
"Can I help it if the boy is so easy to rile." The blond asked innocently.
