Where Were They When I Needed Them?

So this semester, I am taking a class on the history of psychological inquiry in the West from the Renaissance forward. And looking back through the existential crisis I had spanning childhood and adolescence (which I may or may not still be in), I realize how incredibly helpful the information I'm now gaining from this class would have been at age ( Read more... )

You wouldn't have been able to understand any of this at any earlier age. I promise you, you don't understand this stuff now. There is no right or proper way to interpret any piece of writing, music, or art, and every day that you exist in the world will change your perspective. Reread this stuff when you're 25. Reread it when you're 50. Know that your analysis will always be far from perfect. Spend the rest of your life trying to be a little bit less wrong.
