I have been having such deep thoughts lately. It has really made me re-evaluate my life, who I want to be, what I want to do, etc. My conscience has really been "pricked" lately in regards to who I am as a person. I don't want to be the shallow girl who is constantly worried about her hair, her looks, her weight and boys. A superficial life holds ( Read more... )

I think the fact that you recognized that you need to change shows a lot of maturity, from what I've seen all girls struggle with not being "shallow, and everyone struggles with being selfish.
This is one of my favorite verses about beauty:
"Your beauty should not come from ourward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading bearty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."
I Peter 3:3-4
I'll be praying for you.

Wow... If i had a dollar for everytime I thought about myself instead of God, I wouldn't have had to take out any student loans. :) But the only way i've found to cure the "Me Syndrome" is to read the Word and pray. Not glamorous advice or anything, but it helps so much. It is especially important to pray. This sometimes get lost on us because praying can be hard! I mean, what are you suppose to say, "Thank you God... Jesus I need help.... ok, um..." But it is SO important to take every heartfelt desire/need/problem and speak it out to Him because then you have officially addressed it. Also, when you pray, the Bible says that we should "be still." I have also found this very important because God may be wanting to tell me something and He can't do that if I'm always the one talking! But keep in mind that God doesn't always speak very loud... Sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Praying isn't easy, but you will realize after a few days, weeks, or months that it becomes so much better and you will begin to depend on that prayer ( ... )
