I think with Downton it very much depends which characters you enjoy. As a fan of Thomas his was the only storyline that kept me watching until the end. Even from an objective point of view I dare say that his was the most compelling story this season.
Everything else... meh, in my opinion. I suppose that despite Sybil's death, Branson did get a kind of happy resolution, although some people weren't pleased with it for various reasons.
Oh, I loved Edith too, although even her storyline ended on a mostly ambiguous note.
On the whole, not as soapy as S2 which made it less frustrating to watch, but I think the pacing was still a bit off.
You should keep watching TWD for sure, everyone I know who watches it seems to consistently love it. I don't watch b/c I'm squeamish about anything even remotely horrorish, unfortunately!
Dexter sounds like it's past its prime and is in that unfortunate stage where formerly good shows get really really really ridiculous.
Can you excuse me while I go get myself a nice cup of something hot so I have something to spray over the keyboard in disbelief when I re-read your post? :P

To be fair, I've only seen like 3 or eps, and I'll probably give it more of a chance during Christmas.
