OOC: Character Notes
I love doing crap like this. So...
Souji is the youngest in his family... he has two older sisters who loved to treat him like a plaything (because he's always been adorable, and never bothered to protest the treatment.) He also has an (adopted) elder brother who currently runs the family business back in Bellcius. No, I have no idea what they do.
He shortened his name when he left Bellcius, because at twelve, he thought 'Souji' sounded far more adult than 'Soujirou' did. He's never bothered to mention this fact to anyone. Not even Hijikata.
He's very smart, far more intelligent than he pretends to be, in fact. He can MacGyver you pretty much anything, given enough spare parts... and everything he knows about machines he's learned from taking them apart, or by reading. Before he was hired on the 4423, he had zero experience with airships. He'd simply read a lot of books, and more or less memorized the contents.
Souji as a child was nothing like he was today. He was quiet and very withdrawn, to the point of being an emotional cypher. His family would not recognize his current winning personality. (The secret is... this personality? Is largely a facade. One could safely argue that there's something very wrong in his head somewhere.)
Souji grew his hair out to try and be more like Hijikata. Tru fax. He has since realized he will never be half as manly, but he keeps it long anyway. Even if it does get him mistaken for a girl. Tangentially--he does not understand why people think he's a girl. ...yes. He really is that dense.
Souji did not become ill until he'd been living in Abantiare for almost a year. Although he joked about it to help guilt Hijikata into letting him tag along, he was only half-serious. When it became apparent that he really was ill, he did his best to hide it, although there's really only so much you can hide from someone you live with. ...I have no idea when Hijikata worked it out, though. No doctor he's seen has yet been able to give him much of a diagnosis, and he avoids them whenever possible, in any event.
He is a chronic liar, but only about unimportant things, or things that manage to scare him to the point of wanting to keep them private. He's actually pretty convincing when he wants to be, though he usually prefers to be over-the-top about it, because it amuses him. He also loves practical jokes.
He sees nothing strange about talking to his wrench. He's had Saizou since he left home (it was one of the few things he took with him from Bellcius) and would be very, very sad if he ever lost it. It's basically the retarded mechanic's equivalent to a teddy bear. Or perhaps a pet.
He loves animals and children. He would happily babysit for anyone who asked him to.
