Ok, techie people, a little help

Since it's that time of year again, we're looking at presents and Beloved, very kindly, wants to upgrade my tablet.

The thing is, I'm not convinced that a newer tablet is especially necessary given my current - so I need people more technically minded than I to counter Beloved's shiny addiction.

My tablet  is

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

I support the general comments on repairing the current one is not worth the trouble. All of the insides tend to be glued/soldered together, and it is way more trouble than it's worth.

No input on Nexus vs. Samsung, I'm an iOS guy, but I'd say new over repair for sure.

Isn't there an unofficial rule that we now have to fight to the death?
