But we love you! Bathing suits are horribly designed these days, anyway. You're not the only one who thinks they're specifically designed by sadisitic clothing companies to be unflattering and uncomfortable.
The thing about building core muscles and stuff is that you build muscle before you start losing fat and inches. Building muscle does increase one's size for a while, and muscle is heavier than fat. But it will pay off! You're not the only one having this crisis this summer. I think it's been four years since I've worn a bathing suit, and much longer since I've felt all right wearing one. *HUGS LOTS*
I have two pool parties this weekend. I'm being bullied into actually wearing a suit. I didn't even bring one last time. the last few times, actually...
Yeah, I can. I probably will, actually. This party, at least, is being thrown by one of the girls I go to Weight Watchers with, She'll definitely try to pep-talk me into getting into the pool. *sigh* Off to the Target to try to find a cover-up again...
I ahev also gained weight since the year started. I blame the stress. If it helps, I rather enjoy Lands End swimsuits. They are the only ones I'll wear.

You can always say "No, sorry, don't feel like wearing one," can't you? For the pool parties. Or just bring one and never bother to change into it.
