It sounds so frustrating to never seem to be able to make progress, no matter how hard you try. I hope that they can some up with some satisfactory answers for you, because exercising faithfully should not make you gain weight (as I am sure you know).
I know what it is like to struggle with weight, and how infuriating it can be to deal with the jerks who think being fat is a crime. Hang in there, honey.

I'm tentative to say it, because it seems like doctors should be not-stupid enough to notice, but that sort of does sound like a lot of problems that my sister has because of her thyroid.
Headaches, inexplicable weight fluctuations despite changes in eating or exercise, tiredness (BIG marker there, when added to the "despite change in lifestyle")... If you start having problems with your body temperature (feeling too cold or hot, or flashes) or, especially, your hair, those can also be really strong signs.
