[Age] Seventeen
[Canon]
Ouran High School Host Club[Point of time in canon from which the character is taken] End of series. (After episode 26.)
[Background info]
For the first fourteen years of his life, Tamaki lived in France with the person he loved the most: his mother. She was ill, and his grandmother [from his fathers side of the family] approached them with a deal. If he promised to leave France for Japan, to never see his mother again, then his grandmother would make sure her health was looked after. While his mother was wary, Tamaki took up the offer so he knew she would be cared for.
In Japan, he attended the final year of middle school, where he first met his newest, bestest, greatest friend Kyouya (but Kyouya hardly felt that way at first. I cant imagine why). It was him Tamaki decided he wanted to start a Host Club with. Being the son of the superintendent, it wasn't hard for Tamaki to get permission to start the club. Tamaki hand-picked all the members, according to what he felt they could contribute to it and convinced them all to join no matter how severely they denied him at first.
The club kicked off in his first year of high school, and it was a great success. Tamaki himself was very popular - for all the girls that came in to see the hosts, he had a soaring seventy percent request rate. In their second year, Haruhi entered, and events led to her becoming a host (despite being a female, which took Tamaki entirely too long to find out).
It was then the "family" started to form. Kyouya was the mother, Tamaki the father, Haruhi the daughter, and the Hitachiin twins as the two perverted, evil, unscrupulous, vile, morally depraved sons. Mori and Hunny were the wacky neighbours, which (despite popular belief) is actually still part of the family. Really, it is.
Then, Eclair came in. She promised to let Tamaki see his mother (and to pay off Haruhi's debt!) as long as he married her and quit the host club. He had never wanted to leave his mother in France to begin with, and because he had been feeling guilty about constantly pulling all the Host members along and troubling them, so he took up the offer and announced that the club would be terminated. He left, but was chased, and realized his value and went back to them. Despite how Eclair had (more or less) blackmailed him, as he left he said "thank you" to her.
To conclude: he returned to Ouran, and there was disney magic all around (sparkles included).
[Personality]
First off, Tamaki is a narcissist. He is beautiful, sparkly, charming, and awesome and he knows it. I'm absolutely positive he spends hours in front of the mirror, whether practicing "dramatic looks" for when he's hosting, or simply fixing his hair to perfection. He's sure about himself in most everything he does, and that sort of confidence is part of what draws many people to him.
He is the type of person to make those around him smile, with his endless optimism and helpfulness. No matter how long he has known a person, if they are distressed he will do his very best to try to make their situation better.
The chance of Tamaki knowing what it means to "under-do" anything is slim. He overreacts to most everything, his actions varying from crying great tears of happiness, to appalled flailing or sulking in the corner.
Tamaki is, more or less, in his own world full of butterflies, roses, kittens, and rainbows. In trying to see the best in humanity he often comes off as dim (and he can be, like how he confused Haruhi's gender, but he's actually ranked second in his class), or is occasionally manipulated because of the trust he puts in people. He strongly values family, and he can be seen as delusional because of how seriously he takes the "family" created in the Host Club, taking offense when reminded that Haruhi isn't really his daughter. He's even gone so far as to become violent to protect her, when he believed she was assaulted.
His obsessions include flirting, charming, being "prince-ly" or anything of the sort. Tamaki is also fascinated by the lives of commoners, often doing things that would make him "fit in" among them. Though that seems like he may just be trying to relate more to Haruhi, that isn't often the case - Tamaki is also honestly curious about all things common.
Despite all these fun and games, there is a serious side to Tamaki. He feels guilty about a number of things - constantly forcing his friends to follow his ideas, leaving his mother, and other reasons. When Eclair shows up, he becomes torn, wondering whether to preserve his new family or go back to his mother. It is the guilt of forcing his friends to do things that drives him out (thinking they'd be better off without him), along with the selfishness of wanting to see his mother again. I'm sure that once he returned he felt bad about the worry he put them through, and about having selfishly decided to leave on his own.
[Abilities]
In comparison to most people at Gakuen, Tamaki's abilities are very, very little; he's no more than a rich guy with a pretty amazing kick. For a human, he's fairly strong, and he's agile enough to flip over a banister and land easily.
Tamaki will swear by his wonderful, amazing, perfect intuition. It's that same intuition he uses to guess which Hitachiin twin is which. And let me tell you but he's totally never gotten that wrong. Ever. Don't let the twins tell you otherwise.
He's talented in language, obviously fluent in both French and Japanese, though he's also showed to know a handful of English phrases. Other skills of his include the ability to play the piano so nicely it brings people to tears, as well as excessively sparkling.
[Other important facts]
First off: yes, I do play Hunny, but I got permission from Mommy and Daddy to playercest. ♥
Tamaki is half french, and half japansese, and an alarming six foot tall.
Also, I blur a few anime and manga facts, even though I am playing the anime version of Tamaki. Instead of Tamaki having gotten Antoinette (his dog) at the market, he'll have received her as a gift once he came into Japan. There is a twin to Antoinette, Hachibee, that his mother owns. Seriously, isn't that far cuter than the anime version?
Secondly, I'm going to use the name for his mother given to us in the manga, Anne Sophie.
Third off, there's the fact of his french name that he never really talks about anyway, René Tamaki Richard Grantaine. His mother addressed him mostly as "Tamaki".
[Sample post]
Small campus, small dorms, small kitchen, though I suppose the library isn't too bad in comparison to the rest of the school, and what is with that walk to the onsen?
Oh this won't do, this simply wont do; roses bushes aren't supposed to try to bite me!
Can this place even be called common anymore? No, it's too much.
Whats that, there? Princesses? Three beautiful, stunning, wonderful princesses, standing together over there! I'm positively sure there have got to be even more ladies than just that! And they're all living under conditions like this, too?
For life to be as such for me alone may have been acceptable even though I cant cook so I probably wouldn't last very long but for ladies to have to live like this? Daddy won't allow it to go on!
But what to do, what to do, what to do, what to do?
Aha! IDEA!
Worry not people of Last Stop Gakuen for I, Suoh Tamaki, normalcy expert extraordinaire, will do my best to restore this school to its plain, common ways! It has to have a touch more class, though. Just a bit. I'm sure you all deserve it.
I won't say what the plans are now so it can be a surprise.
Hee. ♥ Daddy is so smart.
